    Ensuite waste

From that quote and the pic, I reckon it's a loft conversion. Been watching this thread unravel all day, hoping against hope that it wasn't going to look like that :D Edit: and john - your original problem of the hopper filling up when it's raining suggests that your downpipe is blocked...

I've seen replacement filtering faceplates for the standard BT master sockets somewhere, I'll see if I can find a link.

    A tale of woe?

He could be one of these people who takes anything that goes wrong as a personal attack. He had a variety of options open to him - you were kind enough to offer to do work at an anti-social hour, there must be a hire shop nearby where he could get some portable heaters, he might even be able...

RJ11 - RJ45 is certainly ok. I'm not certain on the bt431a plug, but I think it's alright.

    Drying out after leak

That's what I was worried about; I've noticed a small amount of movement in the tiles. I *could* be wrong about it being chipboard, I'll pull the entire side-panel off and have a closer look. I've only had the plinth off so far. Thanks for the advice :)

    Drying out after leak

The waste pipe from my bath has been leaking. I'd like some advice on the long-term damage this might have caused to the surroundings. The bathroom is ground-floor, so luckily there's nothing below to damage. The chipboard floor under the bath was very wet - could this have an effect on the...

    Domestic phones

BT are responsible for the line up to the master socket - the stuff inside your house is sadly your problem. How old are the sockets? Have you checked the connections inside? What happens if you disconnect all your phones except for one known good one? It's possible one is faulty.

    Deal for Cash?

I received an inspection from the friendly local VAT office recently. One of the first questions I was asked was, "Do you raise a VAT invoice for every transaction?" After considering that for a few moments, I asked if anyone ever said No. Apparently, you'd be surprised :D

    Unbelievable

I like replacing the Monster speaker cables with bell wire, then challenging the system's owner to tell me when I changed it. Guess how many of them noticed?

    Unbelievable

Ah, it's for "high-quality" audio - people who persuade themselves that the socket they plug the equipment into makes a quantifiable difference to the sound. File with directional speaker cables. Edit: £940 for a sodding kettle lead!

    wiring a phone socket

Adding additional lines later. Any decent BT engineer will leave plenty of length on the spare pairs to save running another cable later.
