    Mixing 15mm and microbore

Hi all, We evenutally want to upgrade our whole CH system to run on 15mm pipework to the rads. We currently have a 22mm manifold to 8 and 10mm microbore supplying 8 rads. We arent quite ready to do the whole house with 15mm but need to move a single rad in the meantime. I dont want...

    Knocking through bricked up fireplace

Has anyone got any tips on getting the render off the modern bricks? I'm smashing it with lump hammer and chisel (tried big and small ends) and its just denting it and not coming off. Plaster is easy of course but just can't get through it! Any tips?

    Knocking through bricked up fireplace

OK thanks for the tip. Got myself a baluster and lump hammer so it's time to find out. I'll post some pics of my progress!

    Knocking through bricked up fireplace

Can anyone help with this? Or is the only option to bite the bullet and chip off the plaster on the front of the chimney breast to checks it's integrity?

    Knocking through bricked up fireplace

We live in a 1895 semi with stone rubble walls. I want to knock through the dining room fireplace for a log burner. There's just an air vent at the moment and it's been bricked up with modern concrete bricks (or something similar). I've put my arm through the opening and taken a photo of...

Which ASHP brand to go with...

Thanks for explaining all that. Despite my comment on MCS I only seeing that as a bonus, if it happens. Interesting conversation today with a man closely linked with the RHI scheme...he mentioned the likelihood will be that Ashp's will have to achieve (or be designed to) a COP of 2.9 or...

Which ASHP brand to go with...

I hear this isn't MCS accredited :? Anyways any thoughts on the Altherma HT...guessing its going to be top of the price range?

Which ASHP brand to go with...

OK, yes that makes me not want a DanFoss!...although it's more the installer than the product i think. Ok next... Can this comment be elaborated on? Thing to remember is we are on LPG...which is very expensive, even when we barely ever turn the heating on. Plus our standard of life is...

ASHP - to buffer or not to buffer

Thanks - when you say use AVC store...do you mean use the AVC as the thermal store and then no buffer? Does this product cover thermal store and buffer needs? i.e. tank within a tank Sorry I'm confused. A link would be good to the actual product you are refering to. Is this what you mean...

ASHP - to buffer or not to buffer

Hi Guys, You all know me by now...I'm looking at an ASHP to replace my LPG boiler blah blah blah. Thought this warranted a new thread so others out there can easily get to the juice info. Ok, again, I'm getting mixed thoughts on this one... I'm only looking at inverter based air source...

Which ASHP brand to go with...

Thanks for all your help so far. 1. Does anyone care to elaborate on why the DanFoss AQ is not a good option? It seems the most efficient on paper. 2. Also should I consider larger than 15mm cooper for my oversized rads? I'm replacing all the microbore. Someone over on RE suggested 28mm...

Which ASHP brand to go with...

I'm looking into the Sanyo C02 eco - thanks. I've been told it's not as efficient as the DanFoss AQ but I've heard from a few sources now that the sanyo is a good model. Can you explain further how and why you class the AQ as 'rubbish'? What are you basing it on?

Which ASHP brand to go with...

I'm looking to retro-fit an air to water ASHP for all of our heating and hot water needs. We live in an 1895 cottage 90m2. We'll be using oversized radiators on 15mm pipework, ideally without a buffer tank due to internal space issues. All I would like is some advice on brands of ASHP...

    Oversized rads a good idea?

thought i'd reignite this thread with my current line of research. Many have suggested in this thread, on the earlier pages, to go for an ASHP combined with our current ecotec 831 combi. This isnt ideal as a big hope was to get rid of the boiler but its seemingly more and more the sensible...

ASHP - mixing microbore and 15mm

You had....but we have real issues with planning permission and space. After speaking to one installer he said I was having a laugh to fit a log gasification in the area I posted up here. Yes it technically fits but not to be practical or meet building regs and maintenance. Still got a guy...

ASHP - mixing microbore and 15mm

Hi Guys, Some of you on here by now know I'm contemplating a Dan Foss AQ ASHP with maxi controller. After installation of the heat pump we plan to oversize rads and eventually replace our 10-12mm microbore with 15mm. I say eventually as we're looking at it as a long run plan. Question...
