    Replacing wall lights

Morning SUNRAY, so i ve just done exactly what you said. When i put the wall switch on without a bulb in the left fitting, the red in the right side becomes a switched live. With a bulb in, the red and one of the blacks in the right side become live but only when the wall switch is on. The...

    Replacing wall lights

Oh ok. So i was trying to sort the left one first, and put both red wires in the live connector in the fitting and the black in the neutral. I wago’d the earths as there is no earth connector on the fitting. I hand‘t connected the right hand light. Could the reason be why the left one didn’t...

    Replacing wall lights

Typical, the one time i don‘t take a photo, i actually need it!! i have a Fluke tester pen, on the left hand light (2x red, 1x black), one of the reds, I’m presuming is the switched live...

    Replacing wall lights

It does look like that to be fair, one switch live on the left hand light. Any ideas how I go about wiring that to the new lights I’ve bought please? I do have an electrician coming next week as I feel that’s the safest thing to, we all have our likits :-) but it’s just annoyed me as I thought...

How to Extend cable to move a light switch? (Ed.)

I’m not an electrician but I’ve just had the same issue but you can get orange push fit splice connectors. Get yourself some more cable, push one end into the connector and the existing wire into the other and you’re done. Once pushed in though, they don‘t come out so if you change your mind you...

    How to fit Picture rails

Also, if screwing after it’s stuck, you push the red plug through the rail into the wall? Rather than putting it in the wall and screwing through the rail?

    How to fit Picture rails

Brilliant, thank you :-) stouid question, would the bit and screw size be ok for Fischer duo power plugs too? I’m rubbish at selecting the right size bit and screw for the plugs.

    How to fit Picture rails

Thanks for the reply. We’ve had the room skimmed and the plasterer (who we trust) didn’t feel it needed taking back to brick so the original plaster below the new skim is ok I think but like you say, probably not amazing. should I pre drill the rail? Just thinking about getting everything lined...

    How to fit Picture rails

Hi all, After some advice for how to reinstate some picture rails in a bedroom please. The walls are brick and then plastered on top. I’ve seen loads of sites saying to use a nail gun (who wouldn’t want to own a nail gun!!) and nail into the studs. Obviously we don’t have studs and plaster...

    Fire place

Sorry for another update but value people’s expertise and opinion. Took the second course of newer bricks out. They fell out with minimal effort and seem to have just been hole fillers. There is a metal beam now visible which looking at it would be the original lintel I’m guessing. Hopefully...

    Fire place

Cheers for the advice. As I’ve said a few times, not speculating regarding the dimensions. Wouldn’t look at taking rows of bricks out of the new fire would fit. All been measured prior to posting here :-)

    Fire place

    Fire place

Thank you for the advice that is really helpful. The measurement we are working for are what the fire company says for the the fire. Depth, width are fine, height is less than that one course of bricks
