    what if maybe the current is not enought to trip the RCD. also maybe in the flex between the plug and the washer the earth hs got damaged somehow and isnt giving protection? just a random thought.

    i think the life is decresed but i picked this up off a GE 11w saving bulb in asdas. so check the box. if its and energy fitting though, i dont see a problem. double check though... :oops: i may be giving bad info sorry if am!

    not really. many cfl's can't be used in an enclosed fitting, i.e sealed light. also an outside light might not be used for very long, on 20min later, off. both combined will decrese the life of the bulb and not make it worth it. a 40w indcasent will do the job, and wont suffer these effects...

    trace it back to the grey main sleeving, the one in the middle is earth. (always is) get green and yellow sleeving or tape, remove the black sleeving on the earth resleeve it with the green/yellow tape/sleve also try and post a picture of the recovered wire just so we know its right if...

    if the cable is going outside, shoudn't you use SWA not T+E. just a thought... on the size, I would place a bet on 2.5mm

    you said as soon as the screw makes contact, it cuts out. have you auctually turned off the power for it in the CU or fuse box?

    if yu have a spare section in the consumer unit or fuse box... call a reaiable electrictian, get him to move the ring onto a seprate breaker or fuse, and sleep easy at night!

    :idea: the only person fitting a meter should be the DNO. they will turn off the electrictythe correct way and fit it. Why should you need to know? also I think a smart meter is a digital one?
