    from an 8kw shower to a 10.5.

erm, its not a case of changing the wiring any more. i'm assuming that the 8kw shower i had in there for 3 years was OK to be run of the 6mm wiring? all i really would like to know is that can i safely install a shower with a wattage of 8kw? would an 8.5kw shower be okay for example...

    from an 8kw shower to a 10.5.

its not really the cost of the cable thats a problem, its the hastle of having to install it though the house, goes inside the wall, down two floors, behind kitchen tiles/units, underneath floorboards/laminate, two different sets there of. just for a better shower i don't think its worth...

i'm really not sure, the house is about 20 years old. i bought it about 3 years ago and it has just had a new kitchen put in. Its got a built in electrical cooker. it definetly looks like the shower circuit has been added at a later stage, i'll get some pics of the fuse box so you can see...

so what would you suggest i do? how would i go about testing the cabling myself? Its copper wire, there is a 45A mcb and it doens't go anywhere near any hot pipes or anything. if you were to recommend something to me from what i've said in the previous posts, what would it be? should i...

thats what i thought, what is the most powerful shower i could run on this circuit then? could i get away with a 9.5, or something similar or would i have to stick with an 8kw?

    from an 8kw shower to a 10.5.

when measuring the heights of my walls, the lengths of my floors etc to give an ida, i added about half a metre to each measurement, length from shower to celing +50 length to pull cord length of cable till it dissapears into the wall + height of upstairs wall + 50cm +height of...

i don't think i'm going to replace the 6mm cable with 10mm, just too much hastle just for a slighly better shower. i've been looking at the spec for 6mm and it says that i could have it supplying 45A but according to people on here - it just isn't done!. The cable runs from the shower up...

    loft lihting?

thast why i was a little unsure about running sockets off the lighting ring. from switching off the circuit brekers to work onthe circuit, i'm finding a whole range of appliances which use the lighting circuit. i have a plug which was mounted where the old boiler timer unit was, this now has...

    loft lihting?

okay, sorry, i was just a little unsure. didn't want to go ahed with it without knowing the full story and different circumstances require different solutions, i took your response as a suggestion to look more closely into the situation. sorry for any offence caused by following up your...

    loft lihting?

i'm not sure what wires you think would be damaged by the excess of load? the light switch is fued to 13A i'm not sure if that helps atall - just checked. edit - i'm removing the shower cable which is 6mm and replacing it entirely with 10mm, and before i do that, i could do with some...

    loft lihting?

currently connected is about 700w of lighting, that included 6x7w energy saving and 6x50w halogen etc propose to attach 2x60w standard bulbs to the circuit which currently has a 15A fuse, not sure what wattate the outside light is. should it be okay to just link in two extra lights?

    from an 8kw shower to a 10.5.

surface mounting it might be a possibilty might have a look at taking up the floorboards in my cupboard... and feeding it to downstairs thought there. the 'fuse' box looks like it has had the shower mcb added to it at a later stage cause it goes off in a different direction to all the other...

    from an 8kw shower to a 10.5.

ARG! i just found out that my cable is only 6mm, checked it with the local electrical shop - like suggested - good call. is there a straight forward way to run 10mm cable around the house to the circuit breaker? its a small two story house and the shower couldn't be further from the fuse box...

thanks for the reply, i can now fit my shower with confidence and i'll find a lighting circuit and take the spur off there for the loft lights. i'm pretty sure its 10mm wiring that feeds the shower and i've got 6mm wiring as the current spur taken off it - but i'll change it. cheers

Hi, i've taken the old shower off the wall and i'm looking into getting a 10.5kW shower. I've heard that you need better wiring for this kind of upgrade. I've heard talk about 6mm and 10mm wiring and the like, but i'm kinda new to diy and was wondering... the grey cable measures 15mm...
