    Fence : 11 metres

Hi all, just after a bit of guidance, pls ... Replacing old fence, so thinking of 8' slotted concrete posts 1'x6' concrete gravel boards 3'x6' decking boards (cut from boards 3.9mx28x145) six laid on their sides on top of each other with a 100mm gap between them (=3ft approx high) 2'x6'...

    Fence & boundary line

Hi sircere, ...Tx, you raise important points. My OP was long, so I omitted those. My deeds show clearly where the line should go (extending from side of my house to halfway across brick dividing pillar at back - my house is built slightly forward of neighbour's). It's relatively easy to run a...

    Fence & boundary line

A fencer quoted for panels, concrete posts & 12" gravel boards - previous wooden posts had rotted. He said neighbour's decking goes over the boundary in places, so he can't put in a straight fence on our joint boundary. He told me to run a piece of string along its length to see for myself, &...

new paint smears on window not removable with white spirit

Hi, is anyone else finding that white spirit isn't as effective as it used to be ? Or should I change brands? Yesterday I was using primer (w/o masking tape as it wasn't a large job). Today I want to apply masking tape for undercoating ... but smears remain (caught in the light) from yesterday...

    Roof corner repair

FrodoOne - what a charming comment, thank-you. In turn, I have admired the data that you & other people here derive from a few photos - that's an ability I lack. Tenacity is a bit low at the moment, because I skipped lunch as thought roofer was coming at 12, but now roast is in the oven so that...

    Roof corner repair

Really appreciative of all comments & you must have thought me rude not to come back ... I got an endoscope to take pix in loft (but had to relearn how to get it to work & to get it to go where I wanted - not easy. In the end I taped a long thin batten to it. That part of loft isn't boarded, so...

    Roof corner repair

Hello Bobasd: To answer your post: Brickwork is my house. White painted bit is next door. My house stands forward by about 2ft6" (76cm) (exterior measurement) from his. So the gutter on the white bit is his & "my" roofer said original build (in 2000) was built badly, with too short gutter...

    Roof corner repair

A million thanks to Leofric, Woody - for wry comments that at least woke me up to the probable issues I've got. And especially to John D., & FrodoOne for extensive analysis & possible solutions. It's a worry if the internal timbers have rotted - but covering over ain't going to help, as you've...

    Roof corner repair

Sorry, this is a long post ... What should he have used ? ?Desperately need to get something in place before scaffolders collect their scaffolding, (after painters have finished). Back story: Roofer did a good (small) job for me last year. He quoted for this job...

    Roof corner repair

Roofer has done a repair. Looks a bit flimsy to me. What do you think ? He has arranged for decorators to come and paint it, but they are held up by the rain. So in the meantime, I am wondering if there is anything that could be undertaken to improve what he has done OR is there a protective...

    CCTV quote

Bianco, what do you mean by the right lens for the job ? & is variable auto focus 2.88-12mm something I should be going for ? (As you can see, I have no idea what all this means in real terms & unfortunately the only way people (incl. me) learn tends to be through (bad) experience ! So, am...

    CCTV quote

Thanks Sparkymarka, 4TB it will be. (Incidentally, can I use a Western Digital Elements HD, which attaches with a USB, or does the hard drive have to be enclosed in the NVR to record ?) Tx, Zena

    CCTV quote

I have been given a quote for CCTV but am unfamiliar with the terms & what it all means. I asked for precise information about what equipment was to be supplied (by which I meant manufacturer, etc, like Hik ...) but this quote doesn't seem to have it. I'm EOT (3 storeys), in a fairly quiet area...
