Not Close Coupled - just very close

Thanks reply. Yes it might do for couple of reasons. I might take pan out so new 10mm flooring goes underneath. If it’s a ‘low level’ I could perhaps get a longer flush pipe and raise cistern enough for new wall holes. I was also thinking of using the existing cistern on a new ‘close...

Not Close Coupled - just very close

Hi All, At first glance, I thought I had an Ideal Standard Close Coupled Cistern/Pan. On closer inspection, I’m wondering if it’s a Low Level Cistern/Pan with a (cut) very short flush pipe and mounted very low. Am I correct ? D

    Assumptions - BTU Estimators

I’ve tried to find something better and have had a go with ADVANCED STELRAD STARS. Unfortunately, the User Guide link doesn’t seem to go anywhere - anyone know where to locate this ? There is also a BASIC STARS - is this any good ? Also - looking at this one - seems to give similar results to...

    Assumptions - BTU Estimators

I’ve been using on-line BTU estimators for some radiator sizing. I (perhaps wrongly) assumed that the input of room dimensions (LxWxH) was simply to calculate a volumetric area. After getting some inconsistent results - I reversed my L and W dimensions; keeping the same numbers / same room...

Boxing in - wiring and heating

Just looking at an older post where someone was asking advice for boxing in pipes in garage and the advice suggested a double skin box (because of Reg’s or control) - is this only because it’s a garage. D

Boxing in - wiring and heating

Thanks - that never occurred to me; so it uses the wall as a heat sink. I’ll insulate the pipes as suggested and bin the conduit idea. I might partition the boxing - aiming to keep the pipes and insulation one side / wires the other. Thanks D

Boxing in - wiring and heating

I think I understand (cable heat dissipation ?); is that a more theoretical consideration. Is 2.5mm^2 cable in a 25mm conduit any worse than under a galvanised channel buried in a wall chase ? Thanks D

Boxing in - wiring and heating

Thanks reply. So if ran a section of conduit inside the box and routed it as far from pipes as box would allow; would that suffice for separation. D:-)

Boxing in - wiring and heating

I’m renovating an old bungalow; fitting new rads and new/additional mains sockets to rooms. Is it okay from regs / good practice point of view; to box in 15mm copper heating pipes and my wiring (for new sockets) in same box. I’d planning to add the (dry lining type) socket into the same box -...

Alternative to Gypsum - non cavity walls

Looks I have some lime in the render and maybe the top coat skim too. D

Alternative to Gypsum - non cavity walls

Confess - I don’t really know. The wall is soft red with a (cinder ?) block internal - the gap is maybe an inch at best but it’s breached with mortar / debris. The wall is very cold and behaves like a solid wall. There is a traditional looking render and skim - how would I identify what type it...

Alternative to Gypsum - non cavity walls

I’m looking to patch repair some cracks and holes in an old solid wall. I recall being told not to use a Gypsum based filler as it would attract water /damp. On other walls I’m using ‘Gyproc Easyfill’ - but it’s Gypsum based. I’d be very grateful for a recommended alternative. Thanks in...

    What WC Fixing is this

Yes. I suspect that the new raised hole centres would be too close to original holes to re-drill. I might be able to drill large holes where they are now and re-position the raw lugs off centre in a resin the likes of R-KEM. That’s a good idea - it doesn’t really take any weight as it sits...

    What WC Fixing is this

Thanks both replies. That might well be what I’ve got - not come across that before. If I pull it out, I’ll probably silicone it back down to the LVT without the screws. And yes - I’ve been thinking about the height increase. The pipe alterations don’t worry me, plus the pan connects to a...

    What WC Fixing is this

I’ve got an IDEAL STANDARD WC - sits on the concrete floor / not rear concealed. It has two Phillips / cross head fixing screws about an inch up from base. They screw into nylon inserts, through the ceramic. They screw in horizontally - not downward into the floor. Does this suggest that there...
