vauxhall combo 53 plate engine light

I had spanner light on which garage diagnostics said related to egr valve. Had the problem for about two years but never gave in performance problems which made me dubious it was egr valve. Got Haynes manual (Corsa) and swapped out the valve (new one from ebay) which is quite doo-able - mainly...

Texecom - Veritas Alarm - power questions and tips?

Know also that the Sounder unit has a capacitor in it so you cannot silence an "errant" alarm simply by disconnecting the 12V battery in the control panel.

    Recommended Core Driil

I just read the reviews on Screwfix and the Sparky did not come out well. Surprised as mine has been fine. I once drilled a 4" hole and plumber did one similar in the same wall - he used a Makita and he did manage to go through the wall a fair bit quicker than I did. Depends how often you...

    Recommended Core Driil

I have had one of these for a few years and I have been very pleased with its performance: http://www.screwfix.com/p/sparky-bbk-1100e-1100w-core-drill-accessories-240v/99658?cm_sp=Search-_-SearchRec-_-Area3&_requestid=268302 Mine is actually a 110v - sometimes they have different specs to...

    Getting back on the tools...

You don't sound ready to be self-employed. The money you are on now might not be great but it is regular I think you should bide your time and wait until the market (and rates) really picks up again, for example construction sites. Then start subbying for somebody, or go through agencies...

    Builder overcharging?

I once paid a pay to view fee to watch a Ricky Hatton fight. It cost about £15 quid - I had been listening to the build up of the fight on Radio 5 Live and thought I just couldn't miss watching. As it happened, Hatton was knocked down and counted out in the FIRST ROUND!!!!!!!!! Boy, did I...

Light wiring in Switzlerand - help

Thanks for pointing that out, winston1, (edison screw and polarity). Lightbulb just lit in my head that the lamp might be an edison and polarity would matter. 8)

Light wiring in Switzlerand - help

By the way again, the light fitting will have only two cable entries. It does not matter which one you use for neutral or for switch live - the fitting is indifferent to the polarity. The problem may be that might only be room for one cable in each terminal. In that case you will have to get...

Light wiring in Switzlerand - help

By the way, the earths will simply be left as they are - supposing you can neatly park them somewhere. Do not cut them back as they will be needed one day - even if only to test for presence of voltage.

Light wiring in Switzlerand - help

Two green + yellow = earth cables Two blues = neutral (loops from one fitting to another) Purple = Switch live (i.e. when the switch is on this becomes live) To be absolutely sure you will need a volt meter but you can always wire it up and try a flash-bang test.

How much to install a 3m worktop, new sink, and seal?

About £4000 (4 grand) should cover it. Pay yourself what your worth!

Is this a decent price for a Complete Bathroom Refurb

Westyuk1 - just get the message that you are a tight-fisted so and so. If he has done a sterling job (I can't really tell from photos) then why wouldn't you use again someone who has proved their competence to you? More fool you.

Electrics blowing after having insulation done

£30 for sparky to be called out and investigate and sort that problem!!!!!! Wow! Sparkies must be ten a penny up there (or you Yorkshire folk are just too tight fisted) to subsist on starvation rates.
