    Replace outside light

The feed outside is via twin and earth cable. Another idea might be to use a spare 'way' on my CU. Would this ne a better idea? Would I fuse it at 6A? I take it that it would not need to be RCD protected. Unfortunatly taking the power from upstairs is a total non starter.

    Replace outside light

Sorry, by this I mean removing the existing light and connecting the feed from inside into a weatherproof junction box. From here can I connect the feeds for the three lights and their witches. Unfortunately I didn't think about this earlier so the upstairs rooms have been plastered and...

UPVC window - handle won't lock

Hi The handle on my upvc window will only turn around 20 degrees before stopping. The mechanism to to move the bolts which lock the window in place will not move either. This seems to have happened overnight without any earlier indication that it was failing. Unfortunatly this is stopping us...

    Replace outside light

I've just moved house and am looking to install outside security lights. At the moment, I have one 'bulkhead' style light above the back door. What I would like is to add a pir light to both the back and front and retaining (with a smarter new) the light above the back door. I know this...

    outdoor electrics

Ok so i've got an outdoor socket that is plugged into a normal socket indoors via an RCD plug. It's one of those DIY outdoor sockets from B&Q. What I want now is to extend this so that I can have a further double socket at the end of the yard. I'm happy with using IP rated sockets etc, but...

    Electrics to shed

Ok so I've had a bit of a rethink now and think that a spur from an existing socket would best and easiest. Thanks for your replies, they've been a great help! I was going to attach the spur to an fcu then run through SWA to the shed and a normal socket which would be located within the...

    Electrics to shed

Thank you for your reply, just thought I'd clarify a few things. The CU is new with the sockets RCD protected at the CU. The Rcd on the external socket is fixed so i had to use it! Why do I need an rcd fcu if the socket is rcd protected already? Also where does the rcd fcu go in the...

    Electrics to shed

Hello! I'm planning on running electrics to my shed where I'm in the process of installing some decking. I intend to run 12v decking lights and may be a radio from this, however I would appreciate your ideas on whether I can run a security PIR flood light from this as well? My plan is...

    Planning to replaster small ceiling

I am planning to replaster the ceiling of our small box room. Size approx 3mx4m. We are in the process of slowly doing it up, but the ceilings are in need of tidying up. The ceiling is currently covered in woodchip wall paper with thin strips of wood underneath which are in turn attached to the...
