worktop - vapour barrier for washing machine?

Hi all Think this is the right place to post - it involves wood worktops. I'm making good progress fitting and customising my Ikea kitchen but now need to fit the beech worktops. The Ikea website said I only need to fit a vapour barrier above a dishwasher (which we don't have) but the...

Fix wood baton to wall to support base units in kitchen?

hi all thanks again for your thoughts from the ikea instructions the units appear to sit on the batten rather than being screwed into it (which kinda makes senses from a gravity perspective I guess). I've found the uprights and am going to try to screw into those using really long screws -...

Fix wood baton to wall to support base units in kitchen?

Thanks for the reply Woody - the Ikea instructions suggest hanging the back of the units off a baton / plank fixed to the wall - the front of each unit has its own leg in their diagram. Does that make more sense or should I still use 4 legs for each unit? thanks again

Fix wood baton to wall to support base units in kitchen?

Hello I'm about to install base kitchen units and have worked out that it's going to be easier to keep them all level if I rest the back edges on a baton fixed to the wall. (I had planned to use legs for each corner of each unit but as the floor is very uneven I think the baton is going to be...

Hello all, hoping you can help. I have searched, but no other post seems to cover this question. I'm fitting new kitchen units and am trying to work out how best to prepare for the installation of a new sink and taps (by a plumber) and base unit. (I'm about to start dismantling the old units...

Hope I'm not jumping in but I have a similar question but for a new oak table - would linseed oil or similar also be appropriate? There's currently no finish on it yet. And one final question - how likely is any oil to repel stains??? thanks so much

    convert door to bifold door?

Symptoms - thanks a million - that's great. I think I will install a bi-fold track. the other option I had is to make the doors into double doors - with the trimming solution you suggest I can play around with what looks best once I've cut, dowelled, trimmed and painted them. I guess...

    convert door to bifold door?

Thanks big-all they are all really helpful points and I will consider them carefully before making the final decision ... I think I'll get a cheap old door that's been bashed about a bit and try the technique on that one first to get it right/see if it looks right. (yes the door was...

    convert door to bifold door?

Hi all I'd like to convert our existing kitchen (room) door into a bifold door by cutting it down the middle and fitting hinges so that it can fold back. I've made bifold shutters from scratch before but haven't attempted to convert anything before and just wanted to make sure I'm not missing...

Electrics and a new kitchen - what order and how long?

I know - but fortunately we don't have kids and it's not the kind of flat that would ever appeal to parents with young kids (up 3 flights of stairs and no garden). Am trying to persuade the other half to move the hob in a bit so there's 30 cm work surface on the doorside but the argument made...
