    Rendering engineering bricks

Hi, I will have a wall with 1 course of engineering bricks on it, the rest will be concrete blocks. Can these be rendered ok? If required I thought about going over them with a few angle grinder cuts to give it a key. The joints will be recessed. Thanks

    Rendering engineering bricks?

Hi, I will have a wall with 1 course of engineering bricks on it, the rest will be concrete blocks. Can these be rendered ok? If required I thought about going over them with a few angle grinder cuts to give it a key. The joints will be recessed. I am not rendering over the dpc - we want a...

    Mixing Concrete Blocks and Celcons?

Hi noseall, My thread was about using thermalites (Celcon's) on the inside and outside skin on one wall? I will always be using Celcon's on the inner skin - not dense. Do you see condensation issues with that? Cheers :)

    Mixing Concrete Blocks and Celcons?

Hi noseall, I am assuming you mean condensation inside the cavity? If so and the risk is quite high then I will probably avoid them. Cheers

    Mixing Concrete Blocks and Celcons?

Thanks Woody, its interesting to see noseall's response re condensation using these on both skins as I have not seen that mentioned anywhere before. Regarding the metal reinforcement... Horizontally, is it enough to expect the DPC to cope with that seeing as it would be separating the two...

    Mixing Concrete Blocks and Celcons?

Hi all, Conservatory going very well almost at DPC and sorted out all the issues with blocks & bricks (frost etc..). Everything spot on a square and level. Very pleased. Are there likely to be any cracks/settlement issues if I were to do the entire outside skin in concrete blocks and then 1...

    My home automation

Awesome job, love the fact you got a massive box of fun snaps next to a couple of potentially explosive boilers and gas supply lol

    jewson prices?

Yeah, looks like the pallet went down with a wack. I had the same thing, similar cracks but on a large number of blocks. Luckily they replaced them

    Blocks + Bricks Bonding

Thanks Stuart. It's for a conservatory and will be rendered. It's only one course of bricks left to get to dpc level as I'm using blocks below and later on I will use two courses of bricks to get to a 600mm height for a dwarf wall. So will have the same thing again. Sorry all if I wasn't clear...

    Blocks + Bricks Bonding

Hi, If I have some courses of blocks using 100mm block on the corners to get the bonding to work and then will put a row of bricks on the last course, what is the best way to get the bonding working for the bricks? The only way I can come up with is to use half a brick across the 100mm block...

New Conservatory wall dpc to match house dpc

Hi, I am building a conservatory cavity wall which the DPC will join to the bungalow dpc. Its an old bungalow we have and the dpc was done with slate and as you can see, its a pretty big mortar joint inc dpc (30mm). My question is, where would you recommend my dpc joins up to? It seems they...

    Engineering Bricks or Facing Bricks?

Ok thanks. Now I understand. Are celcon blocks ok on the inside leaf of the cavity wall completely below dpc or does that need to be concrete block? It obviously won't be exposed being on the inside leaf and they are suitable below ground level. Additionally to my question above, would a...

    Celcon Foundation Blocks

Woody, are celcon ok on the inside skin below dpc or shall i just use concrete blocks for all below dpc? Only asking because I will have enough to do the lot but if it's not recommended I will avoid Thanks

    Celcon Foundation Blocks

Thanks woody. Yes it as mentioned a few weeks back. Perhaps I miss understood. I thought we were talking about celcon Foundation blocks full stop. I didn't realise we meant just at ground level. Expensive mistake on my part! Perhaps it would be wiser to demolish the second course and just have...

    Engineering Bricks or Facing Bricks?

From ground level to dpc it's more like 375 ish so the 150 splash rule is well above what they say.
