I'm planning to do a bit of work in my house. We have mixed views from various builders. We are taking lathe and plaster walls out - and replacing them with modern insulation. We have taken out two partion walls - and are replacing them - and hoping to add an ensuite - this will change...

I remember reading - that you follow the cracks - and they will 'point' to the problem.. It could be a cracked drain beneath a set point in the ground.. it could be the lack of support to chimneys.. your pictures show lots of cracks but no real - directionality!

If you add a 'new' staircase, would you have to 'change all the doors' .. and make them fire doors then.. of just add a fire door to the 'top' of the new stairs?

I need 6 steps from landing 1 to landing 2, then a quarter turn (on step 7) then a further 10 steps up to the loft.. this gives us a 'very gentle' slope up to the loft at 38 (ish) degrees. Landing 1 - is a 'Juliette balcony - which looks out over the stairs, landing 2 will be 'floating'...

I know this is an older post - but OP did you manage it? I'm trying to do the same thing - only mine is a 1/4 turn in a corner against two walls - floating above a staircase!
