    Blinking LED (not flickering)

Hiya, Other half had a bath last night and one of the downlighters started doing this after maybe 20 minutes of being on? Continued for about 10 minutes before stopping and being fine for the next 2 hours. Could it just of been overheating? Its been really warm the last few days and with it...

Treated or untreated timber for a loft?

Thanks :) I noticed this morning when moving some stuff about up there that all the trusses have stickers on stating they're untreated anyway so if they're not then that little board I replaced shouldn't need to be

Treated or untreated timber for a loft?

Hiya, I recently installed loftzone flooring in our loft but in one tricky section, there were two planks bracing 3 of the joists together. I had to remove the one of the to fit the supports for the loftzone system and I replaced it about 2-30cm along using kiln dried untreated timber of a...

Boarding new build with loftzone for light storage

Thanks for that. I know it can take my 90kg fat butt on a single joist in the middle as I had to change an extractor fan the other day so was up there. It's just when I calculated the weight of all the loft boards, around 300kg (5kg a 320mm by 1220mm board) it freaked me out a bit. Guessing...

Boarding new build with loftzone for light storage

Hiya, I've been planning to install some loft boarding in our new build (2011) to give us a bit of extra storage for light things like suitcases, Christmas tree, empty boxes temporarily etc. Our joists are 35mm by 100mm high and they span 8 metres by 4.5 metres. The roof being a new build is...

    Ideal Logic 35 - Error code F9

Hiya, Other half has just told me the boiler stopped working with error code F9. This seems to mean: "Unconfigured PCB. Please contact Ideal (if under warranty) or alternatively a Gas Safe Registered Engineer if outside of the warranty period. In IE contact a Registered Gas Installer (RGII)."...

    Cutting shower "riser rail"

Hiya, Is it possible to cut a chrome plated riser rail pole down to size? I'm fitting a new one a its a little long for the existing holes. Hoping to avoid redrilling the tiles. My main concern is it leading to flaking off of the plating. I have no idea what metal is under the plating but its...

Adding to existing boarding in loft

Hiya, We live in a new build house and I'm thinking of adding to the existing flooring in the loft to facilitate a ladder mainly but with a little extra storage for empty luggage. The joists are 95mm x 35mm, 600mm apart. The current t&g flooring is raised on 145mm x 34mm boards spanning over 2...

    Resealing a corner shower

Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but just to add closure... They hadn't sealed behind the frame at all when it was installed, so they had to rip the whole thing out and seal it properly.

    Bosch drill scrapey noise

Really didn't seem right and started cutting out. Screwfix replaced without any hassle, new one sounds much smoother when rotating and been fine so far :) Kudos to screwfix.

    Bosch drill scrapey noise

Hiya guys, Picked up a new bosch li-ion 18v cordless the other day from screwfix as the batteries in my other one are pretty useless. I went to use it today to do a lil diy and it sounds a little odd on lower speeds and at mid speeds there's a little scrapey noise at the same point on rotation...

    Resealing a corner shower

Hiya, Our corner shower has been leaking from either corner of the shower tray where the tray meets the frame. About a year ago, we had the fitter come back and reseal the shower as it had separated along the edge. I think when he redid it, he may not of created a proper seal against the...

    Makita SDS drill, wobbly?

Hiya, Not sure if this is normal or not... I've used/owned plenty percussion drills before and borrowed a couple of SDS drills in the past for the odd job. I thought it time to stop borrowing and to get my own SDS drill. I've not noticed if this is true of the ones I've borrowed, but my...

    Accenta G4, Replacing PIR

Just to add closure to this post I bought 2 bosch tritech "pet friendly" PIR's as recommended. Just finished fitting and seem to be working well. Helped save me about £80 in labour  so thanks for you help. Will pick up another couple soon and replace the last two to keep them looking the...

    Accenta G4, Replacing PIR

You may be right. There are a few different texecom models knocking around on ebay, but will have a look for your recommendations instead. We have two kittens at the moment. We do have one pir in the hallway that faces the bannisters which the cats love to poke their heads through, but all rooms...

    Accenta G4, Replacing PIR

Ahh so after putting the code in once, it stops the internal alarm and won't trigger the internal alarms again until engineer mode is exited? That sounds simple... Obviously will avoid shorting the 13v circuit. I think we currently have texecom veritas reflex, they certainly look the same...

    Accenta G4, Replacing PIR

Hiya, We have an accenta G4 with the basic LED panel. I'd like to change some of the PIR's for pet safe ones so our cats don't keep setting them off. I have the engineers code, but I'm not sure on the best way to tackle the replacement itself. Would it require the entire alarm being powered...

Tips for drilling into walls with plastic pipes

I'm looking to run a full gigabit network. I have a wireless ac router, but its well off the speeds of an ethernet cabled network. I have a lot of big files that we share from a NAS.

Tips for drilling into walls with plastic pipes

I think this is true at least for the under oven radiator thing in the kitchen. I can see the pipe connectors under the kitchen units point upwards and the wall is fractionally warmer when the heatings on in a straight line up. Hard to tell by touch with the others as obviously the radiators...
