Hiya,

We live in a new build house and I'm thinking of adding to the existing flooring in the loft to facilitate a ladder mainly but with a little extra storage for empty luggage.

The joists are 95mm x 35mm, 600mm apart. The current t&g flooring is raised on 145mm x 34mm boards spanning over 2 joists to clear the insulation.

I'm thinking of doing the same with smaller boards raised on 145mm x 45mm spanned across 2 joists and connected to the existing counter joist (can't find 34mm anywhere!).

I've attached a crappy mockup of what I'm planning:

Does this sound safe?
