    Insulating Pitched Roof

Hello all I'm converting a pitched roofed garage and therefore have to fully insulate the roof between and below the rafters (which are 4" x 2"). The Building Inspector has asked for 50mm Kingspan (or similar) between the rafters, and 100mm below, then the plasterboard. I can understand the...

Wall Lights / Fluorescent Strip Lights

Thanks v much for these replies chaps; I DID hope that it would be that simple but life has taught me that this is rarely the case, hence the question!

Wall Lights / Fluorescent Strip Lights

Hello riveralt and thanks for your reply. As said I just want to run a switched - ie integral switch/pull cord - wall light from the cable; and yes, the cable is one with live, neutral & earth. How would this be connected? I'm not planning on fitting another switch, if this is possible!

Wall Lights / Fluorescent Strip Lights

Hello I've just removed some wall cabinets and they had fluorescent lights on the underneath a la 1970's. These obviously only had one cable into them. My question is, can I fit a switched wall light to the wall (where the cable appears), and is it pretty obvious how to connect? Many thanks!

    Accessing Existing Underfloor Waste Pipe

Thanks Huge (love the name!!). So basically it's 'softly softly' with the chisel & bolster till I see what's what. Bugger - thought there may have been a better way......oh well!

    Accessing Existing Underfloor Waste Pipe

Hello! I'm shortly going to be fitting a shower in an existing downstairs cloakroom which has a wc and sink. The wc waste disappears down directly behind the wc and I'm assuming the basin waste ('imperial' 32mm!) empties into the same waste as they are both in line. I'd be grateful for some...

Shower waste to clay pipe in concrete floor

I've got to dig down through my concrete floor to attach a shower waste to an existing (I presume) clay waste that atm takes the sink waste. Could anyone please suggest the best way to do this, and are the fittings shown on this link suitable........if there ARE any suitable ones is it possible...

    Shower Room Fan (with timer)

Hey - success! Went through all connections AGAIN and tested - all ok.....must've been a loose wire somewhere. Thanks again for your help :)

    Shower Room Fan (with timer)

Yup - all is as it should be - as far as I can tell! The JBox has many cables into it and this one enters underneath so I'm not sure if a picture would be any good. I'm going down the lines of thinking the problem IS with this live feed (all else is as per drawing and instructions) - I think...

    Shower Room Fan (with timer)

Hi riveralt Sorry to be a pain but I've checked everything again and all is as per your diagram but still nothing on either light or fan. This set up SHOULD be working, right?!! Any other suggestions - apart from getting an electrician in?! Thanks

    Shower Room Fan (with timer)

Banallsheds - I was referring to the terminal block that's in the light switch that's basically connecting the neutral from the FCU to the fan & light ....as per riveralt's instructions & drawing

    Shower Room Fan (with timer)

Thanks again - looking at your drawing this IS how I'd wired it so am looking for reasons why there's nothing doing! The only thing that I can think is that I've mistaken the live feed cable for the (original) switch cable - they are both running in the same run in the attic & in confined space...

    Shower Room Fan (with timer)

riveralt - have wired up and is not working.... ....have just gone through steps again and I note that you say: 'At the extractor fan connect the brown to the permanent live, grey to the switched live terminal and black to the netural terminal - there may be somewhere to house the earth if...

    Shower Room Fan (with timer)

Thanks v m for your reply riveralt: Yup it looks like a standard light switch that I'll be replacing with a pull cord, and yes, the light and FAN came on together with a delay on the fan going off (same as the new one). The double pole fuse on the instructions looks like it's before the...

    Shower Room Fan (with timer)

Firstly - sorry - I know that this topic has been discussed before but I can't find any discussions that includes my questions! I'm replacing a knackered fan of the same basic type but the existing wiring has me confused as I can't now understand the wiring diagram on the new fan...
