    Fixing squeeky chipboard avoiding pipes

Sorry what I mean to ask was is there a way of identifying pipe and cable routes without lifting all the chipboard up. I have a Stanley AC stud detector, that can find some stuff but the pipes being plastic - would this still locate them as the AC indicator is going off over a A5 sized area...

    Fixing squeeky chipboard avoiding pipes

thanks PrenticeBoyofDerry, I have had a look but can't see any markings. Would it literally be 'pipe' or 'wire' or something else such as a symbol? Apologises if this is a stupid question.

    Fixing squeeky chipboard avoiding pipes

Our house is around 9 years old and when you walk into some of the upstairs rooms the floor squeaks. I have managed to pull back the current carpet and underlay to reveal what appears to be chipboard (as opposed to wooden floor boards) with nails rather an screws used to fasten the boards...

    Question about lockshield

The same lock shield leaks when turned fully clockwise (closed) but not when open, in addition I can turn the lock value with my fingers (ie there is no resistance) but all other lock shields require plyers/wrench. I guess I need to get a professional in but any suggestions why it is leaking...

    Question about towel warmer

As far as I can tell I have a hydronic towel warmer as there appears to be pipes connecting to the wall and values at the bottom. However there also appears to be an electronic element inside as well. Based on the photo can somebody tell me what type of towel warmer I have? Previously the...

    MS Word and 'read only'

The only other thing I can suggest is opening the file via explorer. Then save as (give it a different name for the time being) but as you save as there should be a tools > General Options setting. Within this there is a check box that says 'read only recommended', make sure this is turned...

    MS Word and 'read only'

Have you tried the following: Locate the file on your PC via Windows Explorer (Hold down the windows key and E at the same time). Right click on the file and choose Properties, at the bottom of the pop up window is an area called 'Attributes' with 2 checkboxes: - Read-only - Hidden Chances...

    Downlights on kitchen cabinets

I would go for strip lighting but as you can see from my first photograph there are circular recesses (with hidden wire holes). Rather than leaving these and having unslightly wiring I am looking at replacing my existing lights with recessed led cabinet lights.

    Downlights on kitchen cabinets

Back to these lights, after a bit of jamming them in they have now come out again so looking at a more permanent solutions and switch to LEDs. There are 5 downlights in total and I wondered if I can still use the same transformer (see photo)?: Or if I need to replace the whole system as...

    Question about lockshield

Thanks all for your help so far. I have bled all the rads and closed all the lockshields and set all the trv to 0. I then opened the lockshield for the radiator in question all the way open and set the trv to 5. I then turned the heating on. With my plan being that this would be the only...

    GU10 or GU5.3

Thanks Winston1, I think that it was just added at a later date as all other downlights in the house (about 20-30) are 240v GU10 units. Just wanted to check there was not a regulation issue.

    GU10 or GU5.3

The ceiling is all the same level and below shows a plan of the bathroom with the location of the different light types From what I have read there seems to be no real reason why one light is different to the others, but it is only from what I have read - I am not expert at all.

    GU10 or GU5.3

In my house all my downlights are gu10 with the ones in my bathroom having a (steam?) cover over them except for the one over the sink which appears to be a gu5.3 fire rated downlight. Is there any reason why this single list would be a GU5.3 as opposed to a Gu10 and also why it would be a fire...

    Question about lockshield

Sorry yes meant thermostat radiator valves. I have terrier trv's, can the heads be removed independently from the rest of the trv without having to drain the rads (never dealt with trv's hence my question) and if so how? As for the rad in question, the flow pipe is cold, it has the trv on it...

    Question about lockshield

Again thanks for all the advice. I have turned all the thermostats on the rads in the house to 0. Rad in question I open the lockshield fully open and set the thermostats to its highest setting. Once the heating was on the rad in question was luke warm at the top but cold at the bottom. In...

    Question about lockshield

Thanks - will give that a go Logically if the rad key releases water from the rad then it should also release from the lockshield as you both pointed out - don't you just love hindsight.

    Question about lockshield

Apologies if this is very basic but I am getting very little heat to one of my radiators. I am testing very basic things to see if that resolves it and one of these is ensuring the lockshield is fully open. However my lockshield appears to be of a different design to standard...

Istor HE260 - programmer set up help

Thanks D_Hailsham for the information, I tried it last night and it worked a treat. The manual is definitely not clearly, for instance: - page 2 refers to DHW, but it is only on page 3 that DHW is explained as DHW (although this one I all ready knew) - R does refer to reset, this is...
