Shower & unvented cylinder installed in bathroom - all gone stinky !!

Hi, Last year we had a shower cubicle installed in our bathroom (it didnt have one before) and it drains into the same waste as the bath. We also had an unvented cylinder fitted (complete with tundish) replacing a vented system. Since then every now and then the bathroom fills full of sewer...

    Heating Regs

If the radiator becomes hot in time with other rads in the house then it is not a balance issue. And yes, the stat is in the wrong place. Is it a decent sized rad ? and does it warm up as quick as others in the house ?

Patching up - am I doing this right ?

Hi, just after some advice on this one. I couldn't get a plasterer in as this job was too small so I had a go myself..... After removing wallpaper from around an upstairs window - I found alot of bad cracks and loose plaster so I chipped all of the loose stuff out and was left with some quite...

Modify a hive sensor for outside use

I have read about this being done a few times. Yes a plastic enclosure has worked for others. As long as you keep it in range and keep it dry it should work ok.

Rear extension on Neighbour scheme refused

And thank you for admitting that you are essentially a dishonest person and act like a simpering ninny when someone hands you a mirror.

Rear extension on Neighbour scheme refused

Call it what you will but you had the brass neck to state here that you were intending to mislead the planning dept about when you actually received / read the refusal email. To me, attempting to cheat the system is dishonest and I am calling you out for it.

Rear extension on Neighbour scheme refused

As you are trying to beat the system by lying I would say it was justice rather than luck.

Best way to resolve damp kitchen floor

Ours dried out quite quickly when exposed so its just natural damp coming up through the floor. And yes this is common in old houses. Found it in our current house and our previous one. We did not need to dig the floor up.

Best way to resolve damp kitchen floor

Nope just put it down to being an old house. The damp lived quite happily under the old tiles and will now live quite happily under the damp proof underlay :). I am not sure you really want to dig the entire floor up to solve it ?

    Soundproofing a stud partition wall

We did this with the partition wall between our en-suite and and shower room. We took one side of the plaster off to route some new pipes and took the opportunity to stuff it with Rockwool RW3 and then two layers of acoustic plasterboard. Did a great job for us.

Best way to resolve damp kitchen floor

We had exactly the same in our house. Damp under old vinyl tiles. We simply put a foil backed underlay down before putting our new flooring in. Sorted.

Loft room- freezing in winter, boiling in summer!

I am in a similar position and am intending on putting rigid insulation between the rafters and then overboarding with insulation backed plasterboard. I however also need to insulate the flooring as wind whistles through the eves into the flooring void and up through the floorboards. I will do...

    Getting floor boards up

How do you avoid cutting neighbouring boards ? at least with a multi tool you can get it spot on. Also try cutting a new joint up against a stud wall with a circular saw ;)

Pre plumbed Unvented cylinders with pumps on

Mine is not a Megaflow and it has an internal expansion vessel :) and yes, you need to check that your current boiler can be pressurised if indeed you want to pressurise your heating circuit. You can still have a unvented cylinder in either case but you must have adequate mains cold water...

Pre plumbed Unvented cylinders with pumps on

Correct which is exactly what I did. I had a pressure vessel put in to pressurise my heating system so that I could also remove the header tank in the loft etc (as well as the cold water tank). My unvented cylinder is pressurised of course but mine uses an internal expansion vessel to achieve...

Pre plumbed Unvented cylinders with pumps on

Good info. So mine is a heat only boiler feeding an unvented HW cylinder. The heating loop is also pressurised via an expansion vessel. Cheers.
