Leak from nut on lead pipe

Checking a leak in a friend's flat under the bath. It is on the hot supply side on a lead run of pipe and is coming from above two nuts (around 40mm/1.5 inch) that come out of a tee-fitting and below the swollen part of the pipe (I think this is the 'wetted' soldered joint). A few inches or so...

WM Valves, the self-cutting variety, do they deteriorate?

Do those washing machine valves that cut their own holes into the copper pipe deteriorate over time? My washing macine is taking ages to fill so I have disconnected the hoses at the WM end, held hose outlets over a bowl, opened taps and hey presto...very little happens ie a small amount of water...

10mm copper pipe: Hoe do you cut and shape it?

Thanks Bodger, I have got some mini-cutters now. I only need the smallest piece of 10mm out of the WC into the 10mm/15mm connector so the ability to bend the 10mm pipe is not really important; any bends can be done on the 15mm. Looking more closely and up the inside of the inlet I can see...

10mm copper pipe: Hoe do you cut and shape it?

How do you cut 10mm pipe? :?: Is there a recommended cutter available or should one just use a hacksaw and file? Also, is it sufficient simply too insert it into the plastic female inlet on our bottom-entry wc cistern? :? Thanks for any replies.

Insurance - Compensation of car's true value

I have heard from a friend who has both a TR4 and an MGB (both from the mid sixties) that Practical Classics is a pretty decent mag which gives three valuations according to condition. Might be an idea for Katie's dad to get a copy and see whether it reflects his notion of expected values.

Insurance - Compensation of car's true value

Most of this sounds like good advice TJ, but Katie did point out in an earlier post that the Glass' Guide only goes back to around 1996. Remember her Dad's car is almost a decade older than this. Do you know of a more relevant publication that could be used in this instance?

Quoting other posts and obtaining a white background.

Can someone let me know how to quote another post and have that post backgrounded with white? I tried to use the Quote facility a while back but it never worked as it is supposed to ie same blue background as my responding post. As I did not wish to anger the purists I did not submit my post. I...

    Cold water cistern overflow mystery...

I was thinking it is possible that you may have a perforated heat exchanger in your hw cylinder. This will mean that your primary circuit (CH) and your secondary circuit (HW) are effectively one and the same and you will need to have your cylinder replaced. Bare in mind that you will see no...

Installation of bathroom suite from scratch

Have you started the work yet? Are you going to keep the floorboards under the tiles or get rid of them? Either way you would be wise to install a layer of marine ply (12mm) screwed down very firmly to the joists. This will ensure that you retain maximum rigidity in order that your tiles do...
