    Retaining Wall

I did my own with reclaimed brick, 10 m x .9 m it cost a fair bit for someone to come in dig out and brick up. I couldn't tell you how much, but think how ling would it take you to do a proper job, now think of that time in £100 per day rates. Plus equipment and blocks! If some is going to quote...

Building a party wall that will be as soundproof as possible

I have no experience of building a wall with sound proofing in mind. I've got solid brick and I can see why isn't not the best for sound proofing based on what I've seen. I'd lean towards cavity. And again as long as there is insulation, and two skins of different brick that's a good start!

    Neighbours building without planning

I've been in touch with planning and then bc (otherwise of the same desk!). Planning aren't interested, but bc would be. But anonymous complaints are simply kept on file and not investigated in Dudley. I'd have to formally complain for them to take action. I do have some previous history with...

Building a party wall that will be as soundproof as possible

I have an issue with a noisy neighbour, the research I've done suggests a mutli-layered wall. Sound is a vibration so with different materials, different frequencies are blocked. Such as triple glazing, the air space and thickness of glass is altered through the unit. I don't know what you've...

    Neighbours building without planning

That's why I like this forum, saved me loads of time and effort banging my head against a council wall :D Thanks for all the input, I'm going to live with it for now and try to sell to like minded people in the future.

    Neighbours building without planning

Thanks guys, I only wondered because we won't be in a position to move for about 2 or 3 years, the noise is a problem virtually around the clock. I was thinking the loft doesn't have any meaningful insulation and so the noise is travelling. I've already added extra db plaster board and...

    Neighbours building without planning

Hi all, I'm after some guidance as the council have been less Tha helpful in the past. I live in a 1930 semi, solid brick. The neighbours bought their house (before we purchased and moved in) as a 4 bed. The garage and utility had been illegally converted with an additional 4x4 hideous...

    New Build: Skirting Board Sealant

I haven't used caulk that thick before and haven't found it to be really stretchy, but then I have only occasionally used it(and then it was on top between the wall and skirting). Its only around £2 a stick do give it a try

    Garage floor

Hi, thanks for posting. I'd be doing the work myself so it'll just be materials to pay for. I don't have a budget in mind, but like everything I'd look to keep costs down. I intend to use the room to store my growing amount of tools (so I want a level and sturdy floor). I also want to...

has my builder just taken away needed structure...!

Hi mjw1988, I wouldn't lose too much sleep about it, a load bearing or structural wall would not of been build over floor boards. More likely a structural wall was removed some time ago and you've discovered the remains! Is there any wall above, and lift a floor board above or poke a hole...

    Garage floor

Hi all, I was looking for a few pointers. I have a garage with the current floor being concrete. It is old, the garage is 1934, not sure about the concrete. The concrete has failed in parts and isn't very level/uniform. Attached should be some images. The floor clearly doesn't have a dpm, and...

    Ramp suggestions please

Depends on what you are after. I'd dig off the top soil, leave to one side. Then depending on your final ramp size dig out and area to put in some hardcore. About 150mm should be okay. Put some turf grid back on the surface and reuse your topsoil. Reseed after a while with grass then it'll look...

    retaining post in the garden

Just find an rsj which will accept your sleepers, set that in vertically and then slot the sleepers in. Simples! Please consider drainage. The wood will also need protecting!
