Cracks in walls on house we're buying. Your opinion?

But to save the thread getting too far along, to answer your original question... I don't think its worth buying on the present info. House always have surprises, the house already sounds nasty....cracks in the CENTRE of the house and progressive!

Cracks in walls on house we're buying. Your opinion?

So two chimneys upstairs but the section downstairs at the back of the house is gone? Show some pictures of the front and rear of the house please, what's under the floor. Is the floor wood(possibly suspended) or concrete..if you know

Cracks in walls on house we're buying. Your opinion?

I'd be concerned about the cracked gloss paint on the door frame, the rest no so much. But...where are these cracks???? Work out if there a pattern ie front corner etc. Next is problem solving...has the seller done something silly, say removed a chimney or done an extension...soil conditions...

    Bricky mortar mix.

I think its a bit redundant. To my understanding (only built two walls) lyme adds pliability and helps deter moisture. But plasticiser does that, doesn't it?

Roof error - what would you do

Just talk to him. Tell him want you wanted and how its different and work together... If he is a professional he'll want to put it right. He isn't just getting a few days money, he'll be getting a trusting customer, word of mouth/recommendation. If not, he loses a few hundred pounds and a...

I would personally would have matched them myself as Dave said...second hand and blended them a bit. After all its your eye that needs satisfying!

    Ventilate an internal room

Dehumidifier is the easy answer. Does the room have a window or are you on about a kind of cupboard? If you can't go to the side or up, what about down, suspended floor? That's my really left wing idea anyway

    Fox deterrent

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the urine method from after the impending cold snap. Wouldn't want them homeless for Christmas 😊 and will have to be more direct and try disturbing their den if they don't get the message! Anyone got any riot fear hanging about 😅

    Fox deterrent

Hi all, I'm asking about foxes (well you know that bit!), I've searched the forum without a real answer for this particular issue. My neighbour is renovating his house, as am I. He kindly destroyed his shed which was housing about five foxes/cubs in the summer. We live near a wood but I know...

Where to buy cheap flatpack homes?

I was looking to probably do the same after my current renovation. When I looked into it I found prices from about £50k for a simple two bed twin floor home. I searched online for prefab houses. Two thoughts... might be cheaper in Europe, why not import? A prefab house will easily fit on a...

Garden Shredder - buy or hire?

I went the 'buy' route via ebay. I got a decent machine but as stated by others not really effective as you'd think. Hire a really good one, it will save you some time and effort. Mines good for the odd bit, but does consume time for big jobs.

    Regarded Step

It'll bridge, if you wanted it butted up Id consider a dpc for the step! But maybe your original plan of a few centimeters gap would be easier

    Regarded Step

Why not just put new air bricks in either side of the new step?

Sorry, and for the floor it doesn't sound right.

    garage / garden room

You should check with your building control officer what they want. They may want to see certain stages, or just have emailed photos as and when.

    Brick Slips

Mow for even less help, I have some. I appreciate things look different in pictures, I could take a video of them if that would be any better for you?

    Brick Slips

I know its not too helpful, but most modern pubs/chain pubs wanting the rustic feel have them throughout. Just a thought!

    Ghost central heating!

Just googled it and I definitely think you are right, either sticking occasionally or dying slowly! Is it something I can ease myself or more serious and needs replacing. Are the switches a 'plug and play' or do I need a gas professional?

    Tired looking sleepers

The toxic stuff is what keeps it for so long, but its worth mentioning that animals like dogs and pesky children (the most evil form of animal :D ) do the strangest of things and expect to find bits of wood in their mouths!!! So if you have kids or pets maybe reconsider the real sleepers due to...

    Ghost central heating!

Hi all, I currently have a a gravity fed central heating and hit water system. Its serviced by a baxi 'solo' boiler (about 2 years old). The controller is a British gas up 2 aka Drayton lp122. I am upgrading in the distance future but for now it stays, and need a fix for this ... During the...
