A locksmith would pick the lock open, and only use a destructive approach as a last resort. Just hope the broken sections don't totally jam the mechanism, otherwise it'll end up costing you big money to get the door open and replace the mechanism. :roll:

Alternatively, rotate the handle back plate (which is usually independant of the spindle) until the screw holes are in a different location.

How much experience have you had with these mechanisms and cylinders ?. Looking back at the pictures of the cylinder being held - can you not see the cam is in the wrong position ?.

I'ts not sarcasm, its frustration. The cylinder that you were initially holding is the correct way up - you know that, as it came out of the door that way. If I'd asked for an upside down photo, I'd have requested one. I've advised the cylinder is faulty a couple of posts back, and yet...

If you want to turn your door upside down, then yes the cam will sit at 5 or 7 0'clock. But as you were holding the cylinder the correct way up in the first picture, then its at 11 o'clock. Its knackered....broken...not working...faulty............it needs replacing. Not a lot more to say.

Yep, the cylinder cam is out of position. You'll need to buy a new cylinder. Measure each side of the cylinder to ensure you get the correct size.
