    Kitchen to Office Conversion

Do you have an existing gas line for the cooler and exhaust vent? Look into a remote fluless stove.

    Buying double (triple) glazing

Thanks @ronniecabers! There’s a few more marketing terms that I wouldn’t have a clue. Can you add your thoughts on sight lines ( is there a diff if flush vs traditional), frame depth (is that the same as thickness) , upvc frames with half dozen chambers and metal reinforcement?

    Reduce pump startup noise

Folks, last summer my Grundfos UPS 25 55 180mm was replaced with its newer version, a UPS2 25 80 180 on my s-plan system. The BG engineer said that was the recommended replacement unit but I think it’s over powered. Anyways, I have it set on 1 and PP and system works fine… except that when it...

    Smart Thermostat recommendations?

IMHO ensure there is an auto bypass installed onto the system, put in TRVs in all the rads. For the bathrooms, put in smart TRVs with boost capability. This will allow you to heat only your towel radiator on demand during heating off seasons. I have a Wiser controlled system and I chose it...

    Crank arm casement window manufacturers

Seems the American term for them are crank out vs push out casement windows and they come in the standard material types, wood, alu and vinyl. I think they’d benefit certain use cases where reach is an issue like kitchens or those wheelchair bound. It also allows fixed bug screens on casements...

    Crank arm casement window manufacturers

Hi all, Having a difficult time finding companies that make casement windows with crank arm open close mechanism, ideally upvc windows. They’re standard in North America casement installs. Anyone point me to the right sites?

Dual or triple glazing for air source heating

Thanks. I don’t want to make a big mistake years later in order to save on the incremental cost. That would be a pane.

Dual or triple glazing for air source heating

My property was built in 1998. My gas boiler will need replacing in 5-7 years, fingers crossed. With government pushing heat pumps and the risk on other nations to supply gas, I’ve got to consider ASHP as an option for heating when it needs replacing. Given my windows need replacing next year...

    Casement window plastic hinge cracked

Thank you. I’ve ordered a new pair of 16” friction stays. Seems a waste of metal though.

    Casement window plastic hinge cracked

I did t understand. The whole friction stay units have to be changed out and I have to change both top and bottom ones or can I find the plastic part that’s broken and replace it?

    Casement window plastic hinge cracked

Hi all The casement window I have doesn’t close completely on the lower hinge leaving a 1 cm gap between the seal. I called a reputable company in SE London to fix it and they said I’m looking at £145 to fix any mechanical issues. I think normally when closing, two plastic hinge butts connect...

    Un vented system hot water

What did the guy who quoted £500 do to figure the combination valve needs a new one? Did he at least do step 5 and look at the strainer to see if it was filled with sediment?

    Un vented system hot water

You need to maintain the system. Have a look at the manual. It says this needs to be done annually. If you don’t know what any of this means, then get an engineer to do an invented cylinder maintenance and watch what they do. 1) Twist the cap of the expansion relief valve on the inlet control...

    Reattach ceiling plasterboard tape

Stopping the run is a good idea. Do you mean to then cut off the tape that’s sticking out and then apply layers to even it out? So cut off the ends, slice the tape off by cutting a line close and parallel to the wall leaving a thin long rectangular shape and then fill that in?

Supply Issues and Shortages In The Construction Industry

@JP_, thanks for the insight. At least glass is still manufactured in the UK and not due to Bojo buffoonery. Hopefully glazier prices get back to somewhere near normal soon. Nevertheless I’ve delayed works on my windows till next year.

    Reattach ceiling plasterboard tape

Hi all, I’ve a 3 year old remodelled bath wall that’s been tiled up to the ceiling. The edge was siliconed over and it seems the ceiling side is bonded not against plasterboard but some kind of corner or edge taping. Seems the silicone has dried and shrunken and in doing so, pulls at the tape...

    Megaflo keeps need recharging

Whoa. Im not a pro like the guys who are advising costly fixes, but has all the diagnostics been done to determine it’s the cylinder? Did you search the forum for Megaflo baffle issue to see if it applies to you? Is the dripping very warm water and does it smell like inhibitor? There are other...

Supply Issues and Shortages In The Construction Industry

Well done Mottie. Is supply still as bad, getting better or worse since earlier this summer? I want to get some windows repaired but the glazier said it was difficult to get glass and overall cost was 1/3 more than expected. If it’s as bad then I’m just going to wait it out.

    Megaflo combination valve height

@muggles If you’re not going to constructively advise, then what’s the point of responding. Please focus on the discussion. If you’re raising additional points to consider and you have experience in the matter then ok - what tools are you talking about? Otherwise, I know it’s still lockdown put...
