Outdoor security light upgrade - grey pvc cables *VIDEO*

Thanks @bhm1712. I've had an afterthought. I think those grey cables go through the wall and underneath the floorboards. Coincidentally the floorboards in that room are lifted. I'm not there right now to check. But if I'm right.. I can pull the grey cables inside and then feed the black cable...

Outdoor security light upgrade - grey pvc cables *VIDEO*

There are grey cables running on the outside wall (for about 1m) to the existing security light. This cable is attached to the lighting circuit in the house.I'm replacing the security light with a new led one. The new light comes with a black cable preinstalled I'm assuming the black signifies...

    outside wiring to garage *VIDEO*

You are 100% correct. I've just been and confirmed it - so the FCU is for the light. Also the fuse in the FCU is 5A (as you suspected) Really impressed with the level of knowledge and expertise on here. Thanks!

    outside wiring to garage *VIDEO*

Nope, that was perfectly concise and very well articulated, thank you. Not to mention you've covered everything the Fused connection unit is correct and should include a 3A or 5A fuse - Thanks again. Will check this

    outside wiring to garage *VIDEO*

I'm thinking the intention of the FCU is to act as a isolator for the garage by the looks of it. So it branches off to the light and the double socket. You switch the FCU off and everything in the garage switches off EDIT - actually not sure the FCU controls the socket. I haven't checked...

So why do you reckon someone dropped that inside the gas meter box? I assume it's from the meter company? @flameport - pardon my french.. but you know your sh*t. What is your reading of this. Not that I'm judging your competence @EFLImpudence EDIT - @flameport replied and confirmed...

    outside wiring to garage *VIDEO*

The SIEMENS diagram also says that position 1 is perfectly acceptable. Just not Preferred. The problem with my setup is that it is not Position 1. Position 1 is where the bonding is inside the meter box. My set up is that the gas pipe travels externally outside the meter box - then enters the...

Are these meter tails labelled correctly? *PIC*

rather than hire one - I bought one. Bought a fluke 1651 from fleabay (not calibrated). It's an old and basic MFT but wasn't too bad price wise @£150 I figured I'd rather have one for longer than a week. If I find that I never use it I'll sell it back on fleabay and recoup some of the cash...

    outside wiring to garage *VIDEO*

The pictures you show only apply when the meter is inside - no they don't. Look at picture two more closely. There are two diagrams on it; one is for when the meter is inside, the other when the meter is outside

    outside wiring to garage *VIDEO*

what's the most suitable cable then? where is the cable fed from? So, it's on a 15A fuse running from the CU to the garage. The CU is in the house. switch looks like a light switch lol really? are you sure you're looking at the right switch. It looks like a switched fused spur to me. Look at...

    outside wiring to garage *VIDEO*

This is the outside wiring to the garage which I'm not impressed with to be honest. However, I don't know if this is acceptable as per current standards. So, it's on a 15A fuse running from the CU to the garage. It supplies the garage where there is one double socket and one light (see vid 2)...

lol - wow - it's a small world well done @flameport - I know I'm not your intended audience but I'm finding your videos extremely interesting and educational. You obviously are an expert in all things electrical. All the kit you have set up to enable you demonstrate and test things is equally...

Are these meter tails labelled correctly? *PIC*

OK thanks for that.. from my perspective hiring a machine for a week costs £60. 60 squid isn't small change but is very affordable Worst case scenario, I dont have a clue how to use it and end up wasting £60 - meh. And maybe get laughed at on this forum - meh A decent scenario - I identify...

Theoretically speaking if I were to hire something like this https://www.test-meter.co.uk/hire/electrical-installation-tester-hire And then I asked questions on this forum about the results and usage.. what would you do? Would you refuse to answer on principle? Or would you answer and help me?

I did get a ball park quote - I didnt want him to waste his time because I cant afford it so asked him to quote over the phone. £4500 (which could change if he did a proper quote). He quoted for a full rewire. Sent him a few pics and explained how old the house is ~120 years old To be frank I...

What can I sensibly do myself before getting a sparky in? You get the gist of the house. It's old. 11 rooms (that includes the garage). 4 of which are bedrooms Is there a way I can do some testing myself? i.e. thinking about hiring a machine - would you guys be able to advise me on how to use...
