    Birds

We have heard birdsong all night ever since next door had their tree cut down hence the increase in light from streetlamps, moon etc. The birds think dawn is approaching all night. Also lots of cats out at night around here so birds may be sending out warnings to other birds.

    Correct Boiler Size.

Could anyone help me with a query on boiler sizes please. I am pricing various boilers up and have done a boiler size calculation on the SEDBUK website which throws out a boiler size of 12.7KW. When looking at specifications of various boilers they DHW input and output and CH input and output...

Preventing airlocks in new central heating.

Unvented cylinder is in loft and want to convert it at sometime in the future. We are limited for space and am quite reluctant to get a combi as you are quite right the water pressure is great but the boss has made her mind up that we need more space. (Perhaps she won't be so pleased with...

Preventing airlocks in new central heating.

Thanks for the reply. The only reason I ask is that my present heating runs a off back boiler and unvented cylinder. I had to drain down the system last year following a burst and when the system was refilled an airlock formed and I had problems getting the heating back on. I spoke to a plumber...

    Sds drill impact force

Had a look at the case on this drill and notice that it never mentioned a safety clutch. Should I take it that it will have one or do some not have them. I've heard they can cause a nasty kick if they stick and haven't got a safety clutch.

    Sds drill impact force

Have seen a bosch sds-plus drill for 63 quid with 2 chisels and 3 bits. The model is a 2000 RE and the impact force is shown as 1.5 joules. This doesn't seem a lot compared to some of the more expensive models with 2 or 2.5 joules but what does this mean in laymans terms. It is only to replace...

    Quality blowlamp

    PLastic v copper

I am planning on replacing my central heating next year and will be doing rads and water pipes myself. Apart from fittings being more expensive are there any negatives to using plastic piping as opposed to copper and will this lessen the chance of boiler problems after installation due to flux...

    Lifting tongue and groove floorboards.

Thanks to everyone for the good advice. Will get the carpets up and see what state the boards are in.

    Lifting tongue and groove floorboards.

Would I use a reciprocating saw to cut along the tongue and if so would my circular saw set to a very shallow depth do the job just as well?

    Lifting tongue and groove floorboards.

Can anyone give me tips on the easiest/neatest way to lift tongue and groove floorboards. I am planning on having my boiler replaced and want to renew all pipework and rads myself so a lot of boards will need to come up. Any tips please.

Double glazed units for hardwood windows.

Have fitted them using butyl glazing compound. Got brown seals from the same place last year and they do look better in a hardwood frame. Was a bit worried that silver seals were for upvc frames. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
