    Temperature Differential Thermostat ?

LBoy: I don't have any heating in the property,,,,, the only heat in the attic is from the sun. None is lost from the living quarters. I put a heater on in the evening when I need it,,,, even then, there isn't enough heat to escape into the attic.

    Temperature Differential Thermostat ?

Mikely: Cheers again mate. I'll look out for some cheap stats to try. It's only an 'experiment' at the moment, but I hate to see all that heat just thrown away. Transfer: I intend to use a fan & ducting. LBoy: No, I only have 100mm at the moment.

    Temperature Differential Thermostat ?

Thanks again. Ideally, it needs to work at 'any' temp,,,, as there is a vast difference here in Cornwall throughout the year. What sort of stats have you in mind ? If they're cheap enough, I can always give it a bash. If it works - great, & others might benefit from my trials also.

    Temperature Differential Thermostat ?

Thanks Mikely: I had been half thinking that there may be a way of using two stats (similar to 2-way switching was my logic ?!?!). Sorry to be dim  - but: To follow your reply, would they work at say 20degs 'difference between the two' or an actual heat temp of 20degs ? I don't...

    Temperature Differential Thermostat ?

Hi, I'm toying with the idea of transferring hot/warm air from the attic down to the floor below, but only if it's higher temp at the ridge than the floor level - which of course, would be different at any given point. I was wondering if anyone knows of a switch/stat (cheap or home made)...

Installing Extractor fans in Kitchen & W.C ?

Yep - I had intended to use a separate fan for each room,,,, but until I read your reply, I had intended to put the fans in/above the ceiling in each room. Initially: The First one (W.C) would have a 90deg 4” bend over it. The second (kitchen) would have a ‘y’ junction over it [picking up the...

Recessed ceiling lights in bathroom ?

CHRI5: thanks mate - You've been a great help First: I'll go for 4 in the bathroom, to see just how much light they throw out,,, then I'll have a better idea about the kitchen. STEVE: Yep, as I say, he dosn't mind,,, as long as it dosn't cost him too much. He also trusts my workmanship...

Recessed ceiling lights in bathroom ?

Thanks again Chri5, The kitchen is 'bitty',,,, with sink / window / wall and floor cabinets along one wall and cooker / wall & floor cabinets / larder on the other with a central aisle. The ceiling is standard height and p.board. The internal door is at one end of the 'cooker' wall and the...

Installing Extractor fans in Kitchen & W.C ?

Thanks Chri5, As the landlord says, he provides adequate provisions. If I want to add anything, then whilst he will usually give me permission - and pay something towards it - then it's down to me. Any actual problems are taken care of at once. Ducting: Is that why there are 'flexible'...

Recessed ceiling lights in bathroom ?

I'm disabled & live in a rented bungalow. I want to put recessed lighting in the bathroom (& eventually kitchen). 1/ The bathroom is 5-7" x 9-7". I'm guessing 4 units will suffice. 2/ The kitchen is about 15-6" x 6ft. I'm guessing 6/8 units will suffice. Do I go for L.W,,,, or mains...

Installing Extractor fans in Kitchen & W.C ?

I'm disabled & live in a rented bungalow. I want to put ceiling extractor fans in the kitchen & bath/w.c. My initial idea was to run them both into a single 4" pipe & route it - about 20 feet - to the soffet between me & next door. This is a natural 'tunnel' & will dissipate the outages...

    ROCA WC Cistern - etc

UPDATE: I managed to get the thing apart & checked the seal. It didn't look too bad, so I turned it over - for the time being. This isn't a dig at T.Perkins, but when I got to the one local to the job, they had no idea what I was on about. I showed them a printout that I got from the ROCA...

    ROCA WC Cistern - etc

I have a newish apartment in a block of 15purpose built units of just over 2 years old. It is for letting, but empty at the moment. The WC is a ROCA (I’m not sure which model) with a dual push flush button. The cistern has always been very slow to fill. I have been disputing the water...

    Multi Meter reading for transformers

Thanks Eric for updating me on that. I was satisfied that the battery was taking & holding a charge when using the 3rd party charger, so yesterday I re built the Booster, & finished it off on the original transformer. This morning it had held a good charge of 12.74v and the 'Good' (well...

    Multi Meter reading for transformers

Cheers Eric, The battery is certainly climbing up now - 13.4v. I think by tomorrow, I can put it back in the unit (& rebuild) and if necessary, return to the transformer to finish it off. After going through this, & learning a bit about battery/charging, I must have thrown away some good...

    Multi Meter reading for transformers

Thanks again folks, I had it on my normal charger yesterday from about 12:00 noon till I went to bed at about 12:30 this a.m. The charger started off at about .8 amp, and within minutes went down to .5 and settled there. The batt measured 12.62 volts when I left it last night,,, and this...

    Multi Meter reading for transformers

[/url] Thanks Bernard, The battery in questions is a SLA item by Sunnyway (China) SW12170 (12v 17.0 Ah). I am assuming that it is the cheapest sort of battery for this application. If it is faulty, I have to make my mind up whether to replace it, or get another booster kit. I have...

    Multi Meter reading for transformers

FURTHER UPDATE: Thanks so much to you all for the technical stuff on the subject. I've certainly learned a few things. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I put the battery on charge (my normal car battery charger) for 4/5 hours. Whilst it's charging, the charger leads...

    Multi Meter reading for transformers

Have now got the thing apart. The first thing that I noticed was that the Pos/Red lead onto the + battery terminal wasn't tight. This could be the whole problem. I have put the SLA battery on charge to see: a/ if it takes a charge b/ if it holds a charge. This will show or eliminate...
