Redecorating the lounge - slightly differently!

The missus recently took to the walls with a knife and started hacking all the wallpaper off, so I decided it was time to do the project properly. I also wanted to do something slightly different, so I had a dig around in the shed for a ceiling grid and some tiles I had doing nothing :D...

    Rabbit hutch roof!

Thanks for the suggestions, someone also suggested painting bitumen on. The felt I have is left over from my shed, it's pretty thick stuff. I have seen some hutches with the felt folded over the edges and then held in place with wooden batten. I suppose that could also work.

    Repairing a felt roof

Well, I did use a blow torch to dry the area, and it has worked! I have managed to seal the whole roof light and it doesn't leak anymore. (We have had HUGE amounts of rain over the last week and it has held up fine  ) I also dried the whole underneath of the roof from the inside to make...

    Rabbit hutch roof!

Well, last weekend I built the nipper a hutch, it's all finished bar the roof. I have built the carcass but haven't clad the roof yet. See the pic below: The question is, what can I cover the lid with to make it properly waterproof? I have some roofing felt, but it's really thick and...

    Repairing a felt roof

Well, I attempted the job today. I found that all of the self adhesive flashing I had sealed the roof light with had come unstuck and the water was just gushing in underneath! The thing that really pee's me off is that I specifically called the manufacturer and asked if I needed to use the...

    Repairing a felt roof

Thanks Chappers, I actually have a bit of spare felt that I saved when I was doing the roof, so I'd like to use that to keep it looking the same. The one thing that is worrying me is that it is so wet at the moment I'm not sure how to get the roof dry to lay the new felt. Can I just use a...

    Repairing a felt roof

Right, I see there are loads of topics on felt roofs, but none answer my question! I built a felt roof on my shed (rather a large shed though!) and I built 2 skylights as well. One of these is leaking like a sieve, so i want to remove it and patch the hole. I don't want to redo the whole roof...

Putting a roof on my shed....

This is bl**dy hard work! Yesterday afternoon I emptied it all out, this morning I started stripping the old roof off. It had previously had a flat roof with felt. That must have started leaking, so what the previous people had done was put asbestos straight on top of the felt roof. They also...

Putting a roof on my shed....

did they catch on to cloneing before the scientists? Hehe, No, I think the council wanted to put everyone into little boxes and forget about them, as they do! They all used to have asbestos roofs, as do the council garages around the corner. I would have thought they would have removed the...

Putting a roof on my shed....

Mandate, what is the sheet actually made of? The other question I had was, what do you think the neighbours will say about me having a clear plastic roof on my shed and they all have felt? (bearing in mind this is an ex council estate and all the houses have the same sheds in our cul de sac)...

Putting a roof on my shed....

The shed is rectangular, and I can basicly end the roof anywhere I want...ie it can be flush with the walls or overhang. I'll do a sketch in a little while and post it.

Putting a roof on my shed....

Hi all, Just a bit of Christmas DIY, my shed has been leaking for ages now and my tools are all staerting to go rusty. Not good. Anyway, what I wanted to do in my last week off work was replace the asbestos (yuk) roof with plastic sheeting. There are trusses which go up and down the slope...

How to make drawers, a step by step guide!

Hi all, I had to make some drawers today to go into the study. I also built all the units in there a while ago, but hadn't quite finished the job! There has been an ugly hole where the drawers are supposed to go ever since. So here goes. I built them using 18mm MDF and 3mm hardboard from B&Q...

    Floor insulation

I've seen floor insulation which is basicly a layer of chipboard with a layer of dense foam/insulating material glued to the underside. This will provide insulation on concrete floors and also stop floorboards squeaking and better sound insulation if used upstairs.

    Kitchen 3D design software

Yes, Autocad LT is very good, almost as good as the full blown version but without the 3D and autolisp features, but still costs around £500. A bit much for designing a kitchen!
