    Skirting, architraves and blown plaster...

Im doing up a room to be a nursery at the moment. I have removed all the old skirting and architraves as they are covered in 70 odd years of gloss paint etc. The plaster on the walls is pretty blown in places as well, the top coat is coming away from the coat underneath. I may have been to...

Wiring up and into the loft

For the TV distribution I would be tempted to use one of these to be honest - http://www.screwfix.com/p/labgear-msa263lp-s-remote-power-distribution-amp-6-way/30624. The idea is you plug the small box in behind the TV, it converts mains to 12v (or similar) and transmits it up your current...

    fiber optic engines anyone?

Has anyone here installed one of the simple kits? I have been looking at the fibre optic star ceiling kits in a nursery and wondered if anyone had any experience with them? The bit thats worrying me is drilling the 1mm holes through the ceiling. Can you then paint the fibres in the future...

    BT 'master' socket -

Thats an old master socket! Does the white cable go anywhere or is it just cut off - perhaps the extensions were moved to the virgin master socket? For what its worth BT quoted me £150 to move my master socket from halfway up a window frame and they quoted me a heck of a lot more if I moved...

    Interchanging Virgin Media V+ Boxes

Get virgin to swap it - it will be free if your in contract. Dont try and fix it yourself - more bother than its worth. The new boxes (samsung) output a second feed on the VCR scart (bottom one I think) that is on even with HDMI enabled. It wont have the menus though. David.

    Interchanging Virgin Media V+ Boxes

The box and card are individually paired, sorry! Phone virgin and they'll send an engineer and he/she will swap the box. However if you have one of the old scientific atlanta boxes be aware the new samsung ones dont have the RF out for watching in another room. Oh and watch all your recordings...

    Intermittent dial-tone and broadband

You have two legs into the back of the master socket, A and B. With respect to earth you should see in normal line conditions (ie on hook) 48v DC on B and 4v DV on A. In ringing conditions you should see 75V AC on either leg. (Thats what makes your phone ring) then once off the hook 48v and 4v...

    Help! Lost Picture!

I guess shes tried the input buttons at the top? Looks like 1 to 4? Failing that try the menu / home one and see if there is an option for input? Maybe try the PC one as well? You never know... :)

    Help! Lost Picture!

Press source or AV on the TV remote and take it to HDMI (try 1, then 2 etc). Wait 10 seconds on each HDMI input in case of HDCP delays. If it doesnt have HDMI on the AV choices just go through the AV inputs one at a time, HDMI tends to be about AV7 on some TV's. David.

    Splitting Virgin Media HDMI output

This is normal - having the V+ set to HDMI out turns off the menus on the scart - the scart is only active to allow backup to a VCR/DVD recorder. You could get them back on by going to the setup menu (I think its home, 7, then 4 off the top off my head) and changing from HDMI to scart but then...

Confused about my heating system and how to bleed it...

Agile, sorry but I cant find much in the FAQ for a system like this. Everything I can find talks about thermostat for switching on a boiler to run the radiators but my boiler is always on so I was curious to know what effect the thermostat has and if I should be playing with it. For example if I...

Confused about my heating system and how to bleed it...

Can anyone help explain to me how my central heating system works? I have been in this house for two years and it has been fine but I don’t really know how it all works and its bugging me. Also I don’t really know what to set the thermostat in the loft too. Also its started to gurgle a wee...

    Insulating a hot water tank

This may be a daft question however I have a massive hot water tank in the loft (I have no idea how the previous owners got it through the loft hatch) that takes the output from my coal back boiler. The water tank heats up first and then a pump switches on once that's warm to circulate the water...
