Yes thats right , it will fill itself up , just make sure you bleed all the air out , as for the gunk on the top of the water in the tank , no thats fine it will just get rid of it when you drain it , it is nothing to worry about .

Sounds like a standard tank fed system , turn off the cold water main to drain the system or tie the ballcock up in the small tank in the loft , then when you have finished working on the pipes either turn the water back on or untie the ballcock , then bleed all the air out , you only need to...

Thats what I thought , as it does it on heating and on dhw .

boiler is dead , ie power lights are on pressure is ok , turn on heating or dhw and demand lights come on but the only thing running is the pump , no voltage to the fan and no flashing lights , it looks like pcb is gone , oh stat seems ok , anything else to check ??

if it isnt rising at all you must have a big leak because that is mains pressure you are putting into the boiler when you open those valves !!!

did you check the valves were ok and not blocked or stuck, if they were fine then close a valve on every other radiator in the house and try and force the heating through the rad this may clear an airlock

there will be a wiring connecter on the boiler , there will be one or two wires coming out from the wall going into the boiler , there will be mains voltage to feed the boiler and the wires that go to the room thermostat

cant see you pic , there should be a flexible pipe with a valve at each end turn both on to add pressure to your system , but you also need to find out where the system is loosing pressure

If you know what you are doing bypass the controller wiring at the boiler ie loop out the wires on the boiler that will be marked up thermostat and that will make the boiler come on

it i8s through the schrader valve but the heating has to be drained first .

Which model is it there are several greenstar 18/25 models , is it a normal boiler , system boiler or a combi???

The hot water comes out due to mains pressure , no pump is involved , so theire is either a blockage on a tap, a filter on the boiler may be blocked or the mains pressure may be reduced due to the temp . Is the cold pressure ok ???

If the large plastic tank is empty then the cold water main to it is frozen , if there is water in the tank the pipe leaving the bottom of the plastic tank is frozen , direct your light / heat lamp on that pipe

What does the pressure gauge read , does the boiler do anything , ie can you hear a fan running are the controls working , ie time clock , thermostat , is the power ok

Yeah I know its a bfm europe fire but their site doesnt list it , Been in to plumb center today and they think they have ordered the right one for it .
