So, should 5 be totally closed and 5 will still work normally won't it?

    Radiators - help

lol thanks :) So, if I close it down totally, on the 5th and open it totally on the 6th, how does it work, what's the theory (briefly) behind it.

...err, lockshield, is that the valve that controls the flow out of the radiator?

    Radiators - help

My heating works now :) A friend came round and we plugged a hose pipe into the draincock at the end of the radiators and pumped water into the system, bled each radiator until water came through and, finally, water burst out of the expansion feed into the cistern. So, I reckon that might have...

    Radiators - help

Ooh, one more question: If you've got a circuit of, say, 3 radiators. The first 2 are open and the last one is closed. In the pipes that supply the radiators, does the hot water flow as far as the last radiator or does it just go as far as it needs?

    Radiators - help

The water level only needs to be a couple of cm higher than is currently set with the ballvalve. Both feeds stick out. The main tank say 2 cm and the heating feed about 4 cm. The tank doesn't actually say Elson anywhere on it, as far as I can see. It looks pretty much the same, but not...

    Radiators - help

In the cistern the water level didn't seem really high. It covered one of the pipes, that I guess feeds the main tank, but the other one was sticking out. This one, I reckon is 22mm, although it looks to be of smaller dia on the cut away drawing you pointed me to. Also, it is in the same...

    Radiators - help

Hi, I managed to get heat to a couple of the radiators last night! Having read up as much as I could about how central heating works I poked around my system a bit more. Basically, on the side of the tank I found a sticker that says: "This unit fills the boiler and radiators...

So, is there anything I can do to unblock/tell which is blocked? Or is this a job for the pros?

    Radiators - help

That's it. It's something like that but looks older and dirtier. I found a label that said it was a: Type 4 Combination Hot Water Storage Unit I had a look in the top (using a mirror and a torch - there wasn't much space). There was water in the top bit, when I pressed the ball thingy...

    Radiators - help

Oh, I see! Right, I'm off home at lunch time to have a prod at the pump and I'll try to find the name of the tank and see if I can identify the feed tank. I'll get back to you with my progress this afternoon. Thanks a lot, by the way :)

    Radiators - help

I'm pretty sure there's no name on it. What about the sucking in of air? That's got me worried...

    Radiators - help

Confusing...tell me about it! Last night when I tried to bleed the rads, they did start to suck air in, yes. Tank is square, but I can't see a second one.

    Radiators - help

As far as I can tell there's only one tank - unless it's split into two. There are a number of valves, some with round red metal handles and one with a T-style handle, more like a tap... What about the air in the system? :?

    Radiators - help

There ain't no loft! How do I identify the feed tank? Should I worry particularly about the possibility of the system being full of air? :?

    Radiators - help

I'm at work at the moment so this is all theoretical but, if I manage to get the pump going again how much should I re-tighten the big screw? Also, last night I tried to bleed the radiators I'd just re-fitted, but air just went in them instead of coming out. So, I'm concerned that the system...

    Radiators - help

It's a Grundfoss pump, not sure of the model. It's got a big silver screw in the middle. So, with the heating switched on, should I unscrew this and see if the shaft is turning and if it's not, get it going with a smaller screwdriver? Will this get the water flowing round the system again...

    Radiators - help

I didn't bleed the pump - I don't know how! I think the pump is running, I can hear it buzzing, but no hot water is getting round the system. Not really sure what kind of system it is. It's not modern, but it's not super old either.
