Nuisance RCD tripping - identifying the cause?

It is perverse, but keeps them in business, so to speak! Alarm also points to this as a possible cause....tho he mentions when swirtching over. Your theory about when resetting RCD occasionally causing MCB to trip is probably linked I would say, others with more time and a more logical...

Nuisance RCD tripping - identifying the cause?

Graeme, you seem reasonably intelligent! Soooo, a RCD monitors current that flows through the live-thru the appliance-and back thru the neutral. If a certain amount of this current goes AWOL then the RCD will trip. Ideally a RCD will 'think' there is 3 amps going out via live, so I want...

Trailing edge dimmer and weird squeaky noise.

Hi and a Happy New Year to One and All I have fitted the dimmer below: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/VLJDQP401S.html This feeds 3x12V trannys and 3xMR16 lamps. I bought the dimmer as going to change to LED lamps, thats once I have found some which give off a decent light...

    WiFi Bridges.....

Cheers for input. I realise require ethernet for connection, was hoping USB had enough ummphff for the wifi signal. Flame, those 3m do not sound a lot, but with household intangibles it is closer to 10 and a whole lot of shenanigans!! :( The wife (and me for that matter) would not be...

    WiFi Bridges.....

Hello and Merry Xmas to one and all. Have looked around on internet and serarched on here and am not really any wiser as to what to do. I would like to connect Freesat box so can access Iplayer etc. Cannot easily hardwire from the router. Would also prefer not to use home plugs as it would...

    kitchen appliances

If the hob is gas then make sure the supply feeding it is solid copper pipe as opposed to flexi-hose type. Other than that yes, no probs with installing as such, as other poster stated.

Shock from large hadron collider while in the bath

RF, what you need to do is get yourself to the doctors and get your electric vaccination... I got my annual one a few weeks ago and have not had a shock or even a tingle since. Saves so much time not having to bother with those pesky safe isolation procedures... Bl0Ddy proving units indeed!!

    How to open this lamp?

I am not 100% on this but looking at the photo I would suggest the three metal parts protruding at the very bottom of the fitting unscrew. Have dealt with lots of similar fittings and generally thy are held on as I stated. Try either a pair of pliers and gently but firmly try unscrewing...

A PIR that very quickly became a visual condition report....

I agree, surely there is an applicable BS(en) they should adhere to. Cheers for that flame, I have never actually seen the type you linked before. The ones I meant are same shape/size as the naff ones but better quality; you have to take cover off and slide the plate in place one side at a...

A PIR that very quickly became a visual condition report....

 Edmundsons and Senate locally. Many blanking plates are easy to dislodge I find. Some, can't recall which, are more rigid, where you have to remove the front cover to get them on or off. But many are indeed naff.

    Replacing electric oven

You wanna pay peanuts you should know what you are likely to get... if you tried 'bartering' me down from what is already peanuts I would not turn up even if you agreed on the measly £25. just wire it yaself, it wont catch fire, everything will be fine, sleep tight. Hope the fella you...

A PIR that very quickly became a visual condition report....

They would probably be more secure than the crap blanks you get from wholesalers. Might start using a lil bit o silcone to secure blanks better in future!! Top tip!

    outside socket

The outside socket is notifiable. Like for like in kitchen is generally not so. You may not need a RCD spur as suggested if your fuseboard already has RCD protection on the ring final circuit you plan to tap off. If just one double socket straight through wall and definately off the ring...

    remove electric shower

That sounds pretty reasonable to me. It is a good idea to leave the cable from CU to ceiling isolator in place, in some respects, as you or someone else may decide to reinstate a shower in the future. Obviously turn at CU before opening the ceiling isolator. Also make sure you are...

    windows dropped

I have the same problem on very windy nights in our bedroom. Damn annoying. Never heard or thought it may be due to the sealed units dropping. If it is, then I will hop to it and sort mine. To the OP, it can be a bit of a pig to access the actual double glazed sealed unit. On newer...

Glueing uPVC sill to existing timber sills

I would use either silicone or gripfill etc. Not sure as to whether solvent free adhesive should be used as it is uPVC and may react, but I have for many years used both the above with no problems. Some sills you can get end caps for, though I normally prefer to just try and get it...
