    adhesive onto tiles?

I am just curious as to why the general advice is to spread the adhesive onto the wall and then place the tile, rather than spreading the adhesive onto the tile? Does it really matter? I am working with heavy porcelain very large tiles and i'm reluctant to spread too much of a large area on the...

    BAL adhesive on wood?

A couple of days ago, I started tiling my bathroom. I have porcelain tiles and I used BAL rapidset flexible. The first tiles I laid were on a plank of smooth planed softwood which I had used to make a shelf. When I checked it yesterday to see if it was stuck firm, it seemed a bit loose and when...

    tile trim

Retiling bathroom and have bought some metal tile trim for the shelf below the window and a corner near the shower. Having never really done much tiling before and certainly never used tile trim, I wondered if anyone has any tips to get it all fitting exactly? Fit the tiles or trim first? Do I...

    1700mm shower door

I have replaced my old bath with a 1700mm shower tray. 3 of the walls will be tiled and I need a shower door at the front to fit the 1700mm gap. Ideally I would like a sliding door and a good quality one - stainless steel or similar. Anyone know of any stockists or manufacturers of this size?

    wall tile layout in shower

Hi I am looking for suggestions on best wall tile layout for my new shower. It is a 3 walled enclosure 1700 x 750. The tiles I have are 600 x 300 which I will be laying horizontally, so 600 on each edge. That leaves me a problem on the short walls of one tile and a bit ie. 600 and 150. Or...

    Cutting holes in tiles

I have a diamond wheel wet tile cutter and it says you can use it to cut holes/recesses, but it doesn't say how. I need to cut a rectangular hole for wall mounted taps in the centre of a 10mm porcelain tile. Anybody got any tips on how I can do this?

    Sealing porcelain tiles

Excellent. thank you. Will give it a try. Well, they're definitely porcelain and they're definitely from homebase, but whether they are 'good' or not, who knows :) They certainly look nice to me, but I'm no expert. Thanks again

    Sealing porcelain tiles

I bought some matt porcelain floor/wall tiles (30x60x1) from homebase for my bathroom. Once laid, do I need to seal these? I have done searches on this topic but come up with conflicting views on this.

    Tiling on plasterboard

I bought some porcelain tiles for my bathroom, only to realise afterwards that they exceed the weight limit for skimmed plasterboard. I have now painstakingly scraped off all the old skim and am left with original plasterboard. Can I now just tile straight onto the plasterboard or do I need to...

water regs - check valves and service valves

How do I know if it is mains direct feed? I think I've ascertained it is an unvented system. I have a hot water storage tank in the airing cupboard but no cold water tank in the loft. I don't have a combi boiler. Does that all mean the cold water comes from the mains and the hot water from the...

water regs - check valves and service valves

Ok, thanks all. According to homebase leaflet "how to replace hand basin or bath" you need double check valve and service valve on each pipe - hot and cold, just before the taps. Is this a bit of overkill then?

water regs - check valves and service valves

I am installing a new bath and shower in my bathroom and will eventually also be creating a new ensuite wetroom with wc, shower and wash basin. I intend doing all the pipework myself with speedfit. Can someone please fill me in exactly what valves I have to install by law on the supplies to all...

Recommended adhesive for porcelain tiles on marmox

Does it matter what colour adhesive I use? there is a choice of white or grey. I will be placing "mud" (greyish brown) porcelain tiles on the floors and walls and black porcelain tiles in the shower

Can I put Fernox in towel rail?

yes I have done that. i turned the hot water on on the timer, the towel rail heated up. I then bled some water from the towel rail, and the pressure guage on the boiler dropped. Does that mean I'm ok?

Can I put Fernox in towel rail?

But I already know the hot water timer heats the towel rail. That is why I asked the question initially. Have I misunderstood?
