    Radiator value leaking gunk

Even the finest Jedi were not born with plumbing knowledge and had to learn the basics. Thanks to those willing to help out novices.

    Radiator value leaking gunk

Actually, I've had to do that before, so would have worked that one out. Thanks everyone for your time. This time tomorrow I'll either have a repaired Radiator, or a heck of a mess! :)

    Radiator value leaking gunk

Mmmm, I thought not. Ok, I have PTFE tape and the allen key for this, but I'll need the sealant. I'll goto Plumb Center tomorrow and pick some up. Last stupid question of the day then. I've turned the thermostat down to 0 on the one end, but I cannot turn the knob at the other end (I...

    Radiator value leaking gunk

Thanks Burnerman. Do you want to have a look at this and see what you think the best course of action for a novice would be. My current plan is just to try and tighten to see if that stops it, but if that's not going to work, then I'll take more extensive action.

    Radiator value leaking gunk

Thanks again Gasop. Will have a tighten and if no good then will buy new. Don't suppose you've seen a site/thread giving an idiots guide to doing this?

    Radiator value leaking gunk

Yep, it's the plug above that's dripping. I am a fool for not spotting that at all. Try tightening the plug? It's the plug, not the vent. If not a tightening job, then drain and replace? Thanks again.

    Radiator value leaking gunk

Hi all, I have an old radiator that had new valves fitted (not by me) about 3 years ago. In the last couple of months is has very slowly been seeping an almost oily gunk from the connection from the value to the radiator. You can see the gunk on the paper below the radiator in the pics...

    Roof Cement Type Question

Thanks. Was only hoping for some ready mix solution to solve the sand/cement/water mixing issue. Anyone know if there is a UK readymix for this? I'm well aware that mixing sand/cement/water will for most of you will be the simplest job in the world, but I'm sure you were a first time buyer...

    Roof Cement Type Question

thanks DAZB. Given I don't have any storage space for bags of sand, etc, could I use something like this: http://www.wickes.co.uk/mix-and-go-repair-mortar/invt/154053/?source=123_4 or this pink stuff...

    Roof Cement Type Question

Hi all, Noticed this weekend that the cement below the tiles on my kitchen roof has gaps and appears to be disintegrating (see photos). What type of cement would you recommend to do this job? I've got some normal cement that I've filled some bits in the yard with, but I'm not sure whether...

Question about existing damp-proof course condition.

Thanks again woody. Yeah, it's not going to be water coming up through the step. It's covered over though so not sure where the waters coming from. It's an entirely seperate issue though, that requires me going out in the rain and working out what's going on rather than harrassing people on...

Question about existing damp-proof course condition.

Thanks woody. I'm not too bothered about the staining, etc and will address the brick spalling if it gets any worse. General consensus would be not to bother getting a "professional" to check this out if I'm not getting damp issues internally? Still need to work out why my step gets...

Question about existing damp-proof course condition.

Thanks wavetrain. Apologies for my lack of expertise on the issue, and understanding of the terminology. There's no obvious DPC as in an obvious barrier and from what I've read you wouldn't expect a 100 year old house to have one. What there is are the plugs (clearly visible) from where a...

Question about existing damp-proof course condition.

Thanks Nige. Yeah I'd prefer not to ask someone who's job it is to sell me solutions. So you think this just looks like staining from the damp proofing chemicals? This would make sense as it follows the plugs around the wall. Although I'm slightly concerned about the bricks feeling damp...

Question about existing damp-proof course condition.

Hi there, I've been in my 1900's terraced house for over 10 years and when i moved in there was damp coursing in the front of the house. I'm sure it's a gradual thing, but recently I've noticed that there are obvious lines (damp?) along the brickwork above and around the damp-course plugs...

NewTeam Victorian Shower Low Pressure Warning

I'll have to see how accessible this would be. Are these normally serviceable? Thanks.

NewTeam Victorian Shower Low Pressure Warning

Thanks for the reply. The shower is fed straight from the cold, not a tank. It does share the supply with the bathroom sink/bath cold taps (I believe) and the pressure there is fine. The shower has been working fine for nearly 5 years. I've got the replacement part diagram and I can't...

NewTeam Victorian Shower Low Pressure Warning

Hi all, Over the last month or so our NewTeam Victorian Electric shower has been cutting out intermittently with the Low Pressure warning showing. It has now ceased to work at all with the light permantly showing. I'm sure it isn't a water pressure issue as It's fed off the same cold...
