Lath and plaster lime ceiling repair - skim with gypsum?

Yeah, I thought that was what was being suggested, and as I say in my mind the coving design we have would not look great with this detail. Yeah I think it had come out well, assuming reasonable durability, I am very happy with the looks. Daniel

Lath and plaster lime ceiling repair - skim with gypsum?

Ok, thanks .It's unclear from the link what the actual suggestion is, however the nature of the coaving in my mind recludes simple overboarding. Lime skims appear uncommon. Hence any other option would be much more drastic, removing the majority of the old like plaster and either replacing like...

Lath and plaster lime ceiling repair - skim with gypsum?

Hell of a room if truth be told, we love it. The property is half a larger house, circa 1902, so the room sizes reflect that. Sealed with a PVA & SBR wash and then pushed up into the lathes. They have certainly done a high quality job of the job in hand. We shall see. Each crack was inspected...

Lath and plaster lime ceiling repair - skim with gypsum?

The plasterer is due tomorrow, so this is all very late in the game. I just don't want to do the wrong thing and loose the original look and ook , the ceiling and wall moulding etc. It's hard for me to tell if the cracks are the plaster coming loose from the laths or just from movement of the...

Lath and plaster lime ceiling repair - skim with gypsum?

What is the best option for making good thus cieling? We're eight months in to owning a 1905 Edwardian house and trying to get one of the two main rooms redecorated. Having removed the lining and textured paper, the decorator says it needs repair rather than repapering and the plasterer who was...

    Extend twin and earth

In the grand scheme, I would not loose sleep over the position of the box relative to the cables. But yes, technctechn the box should line up with the cable run if you are meeting current regs. Daniel

    Drywall adhesive expiry date

Not with drywall adhesive, but my experience of easi-fill is the older it is the fast it seems to go off. I've used dry wall that was a year out of date with no obvious issues yet. But it was a small area, hence using half an old bag. Daniel

Pellet Boiler Installed and happy to help anyone thinking of having one.

All sounds interesting. There's is a large 17 century house in Monmouth who's owners I was talking to, who have put wood chip boilers in, huge installation, paid up front, but getting grand money the covers the cost of all the fuel. But really interesting to hear about domestic sized...

How to treat & paint garage floor?

Certainly for a professional job Epoxy appears to be king, but there is a bit or work in getting it right and its not cheap. Have a read of this: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=&t=1730030 Daniel

    Sockets in a loft?

I put an unfused spur in, replacing and extention lead nailed to the wall that the previous owner left me. It has been used for running a vacuum, but usually just the TV booster/distributor. Lighting is off the lighting circuit, 17th ed board, so different RCD. Sorted. Space is huge but only...

    Dimmable LED lighting system?

Anyone? I was talking to be dad at the weekend, for their house he has found some LED lamps that have multiple levels of dimming achieved by cycling the power switch. Phillips do one that has a few levels followed by the lowest level which uses extra-warm, these remember the level and come...

Worth knowing, but I think I'll keep my fluke and just be slightly cautious when I use it. Daniel
