i keep chickens, and although the rats are attracted, that's not the reason they're there - it's the food and water Might be worth advising you neighbour that food and water should be kept up off the ground where the rats can't reach but the chickens can

    Rats!

i tried a few traps, i had them in the kitchen and in my walls, even the dogs weren't doing very well (they were winning 5-0 though!) I resorted to poison after months of trying different things. I haven't seen the dead rats, but the noises have stopped and the poison isn't being taken as...

    Plaster or Render Chimney Breast

Hi, I was wondering if i need to sand/cement render my chimney breast that houses a 12kw wood burner. What mix would you go with to avoid heat cracking and the render blowing off the brickwork (i expect shrinkage cracks and know i will be filling and re-painting for a while)

Uses for under floor crawl space

Thanks Aron, Just seems such a waste of space, but i'll be doing lots of different things to the house so everything is always an option. I'm a QS so know plenty of people, but tend to do a lot of things myself, so it's just material prices really.

Uses for under floor crawl space

I could always render the walls, and possibly dig down deeper to the foundations (unsure of their level at the minute) Install a sump pump in one corner for any ground/surface water etc

Uses for under floor crawl space

Already looking into insulating the floor. This is exactly the reason that got me thinking of a use for the space. Access could/would be through a new opening in the back wall and i could soon form a pit or steps down to it. Currently have a rather large dog flap in my back door, so...

Uses for under floor crawl space

Ok, so i have a decent under floor crawl space and i'm wondering if there's anything i can do with it. Approx 1950s brick build bungalow (cavity wall, no insulation) The under floor space has been filled with a slurry mix, but i have approx 500 - 1000 worth of height between the bottom of...

    Gates and Cranked Hinges

Thanks, i'd seen field gate hinges but i'm not sure if i can get one the correct width. Either way, i was going to mount the pin 'inside' the opening, and cut the gates to suit
