Plaster or Render Chimney Breast

Hi,

I was wondering if i need to sand/cement render my chimney breast that houses a 12kw wood burner.

What mix would you go with to avoid heat cracking and the render blowing off the brickwork (i expect shrinkage cracks and know i will be filling and re-painting for a while)
