E40 is code for the door being open. Try closing/slamming the door hard a few times. It might be the interlock not working. This is easily replaced. In meantime try the above which may be enough to get it going this time. If not post a message again

Have you looked at pipe from bottom of drum to the pump and onwards to the drain outlet.?

Solved this myself. Opened up interlock mechanism on bench. Moved solenoid plunger up and down and turned small wheel. Also did it when it wasplugged in and hanging from the machine- dangerous procedure. Machine sprang into life. took no chances and replaced interlock assembly. all working well...
