How to sort of payment issues once and for all

This may be a DIY forum but occasionally some of us will need to use the services of a pro, aka tradesmen. We've all heard stories of tradesmen taking the money and not finishing the job, or doing a poor job and not coming back to fix it after getting paid. There's also the other side of the...

    Metal gate post

I'm thinking of replacing my current rotten wooden gate posts with new 6 ft metal ones, of this sort: https://www.wickes.co.uk/DuraPost-Steel-Anthracite-Grey-Corner-Gate-Fence-Post---75-x-75-x-2400mm/p/249716 How do I hang my gate on them? I'm currently using a hook on plate screwed to the...

    Name this part please

You have better search skills than me. That's a very important skill these days for DIY!

You can pay more tax if you think you don't pay enough. The tax burden is supposed to be at its highest for years at the moment yet services are, I agree with you, in a dire state. You must know that paying more taxes doesn't necessarily translate directly into better public services...

    Tip experience

Trade is another one. Why do they have to pay to dispose of waste properly? There is probably a cost involved at the tip in processing the waste and trades make money but again, them having to pay to throw away rubbish is ridiculous in my opinion. It encourages them to fly-tip as well if they...

Don't we pay enough taxes already?

No charges but I think you are all missing the point of my question. Why put barriers in place when people are trying to do the right thing and dispose of waste correctly? Surely this is encouraging flytipping?

No, there are no issues with bin bags at our tip.

No, just the equivalent of 5 bags. Domestic waste, no trade waste allowed.

    Tip experience

Went to the tip the other day by car and was told I have too much rubbish - 5 bags allowed per trip! Someone told me they used to have to pay to dispose of rubbish in their tip; fortunately that was never the case in my local tip. Can anyone explain the logic of limiting the amount of rubbish...

    Large shower tray waste location

I've just bought a shower tray 1.6m long. It says that for shower trays exceeding 1.2m long, the waste must be located on the same side as the shower. I bought this tray online and it didn't mention this in the product description, which is one of the reasons I chose it. I had planned for the...

Large tiles weight vs small tiles

Same tile thickness and material of course, just the surface area changes. I was just working with large tiles and supported them properly when I was thinking about all this.

Large tiles weight vs small tiles

A large tile freshly stuck on the wall is going to slide down whereas a small tile will stay in place. Obviously this is to do with the weight but when you think about it, the coverage of adhesive per unit area on both tiles is the same. So both the big and small tiles should behave the same way...

    Door handle with minimal projection

Excellent. Just what I need. Looks like I don't need DIY help but how to search on Google :( I tried small knobs, small door handles, discrete door handles then flush door handles and gave up!

    Door handle with minimal projection

I've got an internal door in my corridor and I keep hitting my hand against the door handle. Today I just hit myself hard and drew blood and had enough. Is there a door handle I could fit that would barely project out? I still need to shut the door though I don't need to lock it. Unfortunately...

Solar PV - how much free electricity am I getting

I wish. All I get is daily kWh generated, over the last 30 days and total for the lifetime of the panels.

Solar PV - how much free electricity am I getting

What will the inverter show me? I've never paid too much attention to it but as far as I know, it's just a large metal box with no display. In fact, I'm assuming the inverter is housed there. I've found out since that my meter display shows rEd which means reverse energy detected, at least...

Solar PV - how much free electricity am I getting

The only thing i have on the display is the reading, i.e. a set of numbers. Could you share a link to the manual?
