Not sure where to fix now area has cracked

Personally after discovering thunderbolts & chemical anchors, i'll never use expanding anchors again. If you think about it, the mechanical anchors stay in place by applying force outwards.. further more you have to drill a bigger hole whihc takes longer and the bit costs more..so why bother?

Not sure where to fix now area has cracked

Re post holder.. with a grinder like hot knife through butter.. but with a hacksaw should be easy enough. If you have some thunderbolts and use post holder then that should be enough.. if then when all in place you notice there is too much movement because of bolt, you can always upgrade...

Not sure where to fix now area has cracked

I think you should look again at chemical studs.. It doesn't have to be that expensive stuff Tool-station do something perfectly adequate for £15 that can fit in a caulk/silicon gun .. Instead of using the expensive off the shelf you can use threaded rod cut to size. Thunderbolts arent very...

    Is this RSJ safe?

Re: extending not as high as a 'full' opening unless I'm mistaken the same causes "extra" load as it's carrying the brick above. The total load will then span at 2 points. So total load/2. will be applied to a) the continuation of the wall and b) the perpendicular wall. You then add the...

internal brick wall to support load other than rafters.

I'd been reading up on slenderness/buckling of steel columns just a week or so before the post. Se's haven't come back with any concerns as yet and only one wasnt prepared to quote an actual figure for the calcs. So fingers crossed. Wall is brick however type of and as such compressive...

    Is this RSJ safe?

Curious as to what detail BC had to say a 2m opening. Looking at the drawing its more like the wall will be supporting loads the same as if it were "sort of a" 4m opening. What size steel has been specd? How much more cost is it to go the belts and braces route? i.e Beam across both openings.

Not sure where to fix now area has cracked

Why don't you drill into the path and not the wall? Get some post holders from screwfix/toolstation fix them to the ground and just use a longer post. If you want to fix it verticaly.. I (not saying i'm right) Would use some 10mm threaded rod drill 13mm and fill with resin.. but not so close to...

Does this quote seem rediculous or is it me???

One thing that I do strongly disagree with is: "One guy burying some asbestos is neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things." Given that i've been the one to sit there and dig the stuff up (cement bound) whilst weeding on an allotment.. and to further that my 4 year old son was...

Does this quote seem rediculous or is it me???

Personally I would remove the roof and take it to the tip.. wearing the p3 respirator.. around the fixing bolts it may have broken down thus particles.. Also just by uninstalling it you will be disturbing it. For the sake of wearing a respirator for a day if you all ready have one and some...

Rebars for brick gatepost: hole size and waterproofing

What about drilling a 19mm hole and filling with resin prior to put you rebar in. Clearly then it wouldn't be loose at all.

Suspended to Floating> Level sloped oversite-Screed/Concr

I'm wanting to lower the current floor level in order to give more headroom for loft conversion. Ok seems nuts but it's a shell and the floor has to come up anyway. Currently I have a suspended with void between 1.1m and 0.450. All walls from finished floor will be tanked internally and...

    Flitch beams and service notches/holes

Thanks. Maybe I was overly worried. As you say strength of steel is what takes the load.. so on that bases of that If the guidelines for notching joists are used Max d/3 min 2" from edge etc then I can deduct what the max allowable holes are. And just because as "standard" the steel plate is...

    Flitch beams and service notches/holes

Thanks... I always search through similar posts prior and post myself as a last resort. Maybe you know the thread or the keywords I should search under. If so I'd appreciate if you could point me in the right direction Searching on "Flitch Hole" Or "Flitch notch" "flitch Service" returns...

    Flitch beams and service notches/holes

I'm looking at a loft convertion where headheight is more than a luxury to work with. I am therefor looking to use shorter/thinner timber by using flitch beams. but then came a thought. what about service notches/holes and their effect on the beam? It seems strange wrong to reduce a joists...

could always try nailing a weak piece of timber with a hilti dx460 or similar. Accidents can and will happen.

    Warm roof... Improvement/Development. PD/Planning

Will no doubt be putting forward for planning on the project anyway. However i get a strong feeling neighbor is going to kick up a fuss as they are already taking the michael rather seriously e.g. ripping down hoarding to use as a rear fence panels. Installing pool and outside Jacuzzi shortly...

Ok thanks. So from what you say the fact that it is an improvement and not development doesn't come into it.
