    Oak floor cleaning assistance

Cheers guys. I will sand. Trying to clean was a quick option that would not give the same results. Having looked at it again, I know it will have to be sanded and I should not try to cut corners. For the sake of a machine and a couple of days it's not worth the risk.

    Oak floor cleaning assistance

We had an oak floor laid (solid tongue and groove, glued to floor) in our kids play room. It was pre sanded although not finished with any protective product. For timing reasons we had to let the decorators in before we could wax oil the floor so it was left as bare wood. I now need to clean it...

    Rubber nut covers

Cheers chaps. Scrit, I had discounted dome nut covers as they are still metal, was looking for a softer surface if (and when) one of the catches it. freddymercurystwin, They look to be the items, will need a mixture of both, the fixings to the metal (foundation) brackets are exposed and...

    Rubber nut covers

Having done an internet search and discounted the S&M suppliers I can't seem to find what I am looking for and wondered if it had a specific name. I have built the kids a wooden play house/slide/swing etc. and want to cover the bolt heads with rubber covers to stop them hurting themselves if...

    Retaining wall idea

I have to build a raised bed about 80 cm to 100cm, it will only have to retain earth a metre back as there is a lager retaining wall to next door already built behind it. I do not want to build another wall and wondered if I could do it as per the below method, cost wise I think the below...

    Hardwax oil (Woodyoulike) help!

currently doing kids playroom at the moment and have bought a solid oak floor (20mm, T&G, bevelled edges, unfinished). The builders will lay it but I want to do the finishing myself so it can be done once they have left and all the dust has settled. Having reviewed here and Woodyoulike's site...

Flat screen tv on a stud wall?

The brackets for a 32" TV are not that wide and so only one side of it will hit an upright. To counter this I have seen people put up wooden boarding screwed onto two of the stud wall uprights, the bracket has then been fixed to this. I have seen a couple of them and one looked awful whereas...

    opening up a chimney breast

If it has just been closed up then the integrety of the structure should be in place (lintel/ original brickwork etc..) I would knock out the work that was done to cover it and return it to it's original state, then make the decision on whether it's big enough. Dependant upon your skill...

    New loft floor required

Having my loft done and the floor is knackered. The joists in part of it have been eaten by wood worm (older part of house, all since left). Whilst we could do a patch job with the beams and strengthen them by running ones along side the ceiling height of the room underneath is not great. The...

    New Shed

Thank's Big all. I expect it to age, my main concern is that I will be building a jungle gym next to it with pre treated wood and I want to get the shed as similar as possible before they all get put up so they can age together. As long as they stay in sync colour wise it will be fine. I want...

    New Shed

Cheers Joe. The constant oiling is not an issue. When I had our outdoor furniture outside (currently in garage next to shed) in South Africa I used to oil it all the time to stop it going dry and used to enjoy it as a form of relaxation. What is in the coloron stuff, I have not seen them...

    New Shed

Got my new shed neatly piled up in the garage whilst I am waiting for the paperwork to go through at the local commune (needed neighbours approval). Once I get this I will be laying the concrete base but wondered if I could proceed with preparation of the bare timber now. I want to change...
