    Coil spring compressors.

I think probably most of them do it, I have two pairs and both of them do. the stress under tension causes the threaded part to bend. They might make some thicker ones, haven't seen any but they might be a bit cumbersome. Have a look on Ebay, they have most things on there. Peter

I still have a few of those 'Thermostart' units as Perkins called them, in a draw in the garage, from my diesel conversion days. They used to have a little reservoir to supply the fuel, but I found they worked just as well if you plumbed them into the low pressure fuel supply. Peter

You know you are getting old when......

Oh yes, I remember it well. Starting diesels in the '50s was fun. I had fitted a brand new Perkins 4/99 engine into a Vauxhall Cresta (Perkins did kits to fit them into all popular cars) and even that wouldn't start, largely because the fuel waxed and wouldn't go through the filter and pipes...

Yes but the later one, that's based on the Devon ours was the Somerset model, exactly the same but with a different grill. Compared with the 1939 Ford Prefect I bought it was a Rolls Royce, OHV engine, hydraulic brakes, independent front suspension and it even had a heater! I passed my test in...

Don't have a radio ham locally? The operating frequency falls in the 70cm band, unlikely they would be operating all the time but just a thought.

Thanks for your optimism John. I do have an ancient carbon ark brazing tool that I used with my welder many years ago, I might try that tomorrow, if I can find it, although my auto dimming mask seems to have packed up.:(. Peter

Countax mower, cant remove deck pulleys

Thanks John I thought if anyone knew you would:) . I have applied some heat but only with a plumbing torch. The first one came off with no trouble at all, I was only going to change one as it had seized up, did that one OK, then spun the others and the noise indicated they needed doing as well...
