Value of an older model Ranger?

My son has two of them, one he bought recently which is an 07 with a good body and I think he paid £2500 for it which was very cheap, that was in Surrey, we had previously looked at one locally which was older and in nothing like as good condition and that went for £3500. His other one is an 02...

Is a new Turbo the same as a new engine? Peugeot 307?

I have had Peugeot and Citroen diesels that have been good for nearly 300,000 miles. Peter

How much force to press out a wheel bearing?

If you can remove the centre part of the bearing run a ring of weld around the inside of the outer, when it cools it will shrink and you can lever it out with a couple of screwdrivers - or at least on the Citroen XM you can. Peter

If you have one that's not rotten they make good money. Peter

    Car Alternator Diode Testing

Diodes should be tested out of circuit and will read about 0.6v forward and virtually open circuit in reverse. I appreciate its difficult to do that but if you can disconnect everything else from the circuit you should get a fairly accurate reading. Peter

    Using 12 v 85 ah battery in ride on mower /tractor ?

I would concur, bit of a sledge hammer and walnut job but it shouldn't have any trouble starting it - or you could as suggested take the spark plug out and run it on the battery.;) Peter

What are some of the most bullet proof cars to buy in terms of reliability these days

Vauxhall's are apparently now made by PSA, should be good if they use their diesels. Peter

What’s is like to drive and own a Bentley?

A friend on mine had one and chauffeured us on our wedding, that was in 1963 though. I think it was a Barker Sports Special 1949. It was quite a sumptuous car but had the odd quirk of having the gear change on the right of the drivers seat which impeded entry and egress somewhat. Spares were...

    Battery dead after 6 months.

On some vehicles you cant get 14.5 v on tickover, although I'm not all that sure about this modern stuff, try revving it gently, if still low voltage the alternator could be faulty and leaking current thus running the battery down. Connect an ammeter in series with the alternator cable -...

    Dead (mobility) battery test?

Allow me to introduce myself.:) Was a TV engineer for 50 years starting in '54, retired in 04, now coming up 82 (have had both jabs:cool:) One of my first jobs in the shop was charging accumulators, much less technical that it is now! Didn't get my licence until the '80s' via CB like most of...

    Dead (mobility) battery test?

I don't use a smart charger mine are good old fashioned mains transformer types. With one of those if the battery is OK it will start charging at a fairly high current immediately you connect the battery, the current should then gradually drop until the battery is fully charged. If you get...

    Dead (mobility) battery test?

I just bought two 12v 82 ah deep cycle batteries from Tayna for not much over £100 as back up batteries for my ham radio equipment. The previous ones I bought second hand about 10-15 years ago and they have only just failed. I charge them at a continuous 13.2 volts as that is the theoretical...

What are some of the most bullet proof cars to buy in terms of reliability these days

Don't know about a 409 but most of my 406's had done well over 200,000 and were still going strong. The previous XUD IDI engines which these were based on were capable of 300k, I had a couple of XMs that had done nearly that. I would expect these engines would be good for 200,000+ my first 406...

What are some of the most bullet proof cars to buy in terms of reliability these days

The ones I have at present are in 2008 C5s but I know they made them until the end of the run which was about 2017, I think they are still the same. There must be millions of them about as they were used by Ford in the Mondeo - although for some reason the don't seem to be as reliable in them...

What are some of the most bullet proof cars to buy in terms of reliability these days

If you want a diesel the 2.0. Peugeot/Citroen engine is about the most reliable. Peter

    Battery life

Batteries gradually lose capacity as they get older but will still start the car because the large plate area can provide a high enough current for just a few seconds but the reserve can be very small. Peter

Renault Trafic/Vauxhall Vivaro diesel injector blown out of cyl head...

If all else fails weld a nut onto it through the hole in the middle, not only will this give you much better purchase on it but the heat will also expand the head round the bolt.
