Help with very damp 300 year old stone house

Hi Ken I have used that but not on the house, did use some on my workshop though with moderate but not complete success, it was made from several precast garage sections and in the front bit where the door would have been I built a concrete block wall. I think they must have been cheap blocks...

Help with very damp 300 year old stone house

Thanks for your comments. We have a dehumidifier in one room downstairs, it used to be our bedroom but we have now moved upstairs. The room is built on the north end of the house and is single story, with the humidifier on it does stay reasonably dry although quite a lot of water is being...

Help with very damp 300 year old stone house

No insulation at all, walls are about 2 feet thick, flint and lime mortar. I'm sure some of the damp is condensation but if you leave anything on the window seats for any length of time it gets very wet underneath. When we had the silicone injection damp course we had water running down the...

Help with very damp 300 year old stone house

We have lived in this house for 50 years so it's actually 350 years old - not that I suppose that it makes any difference. It's been damp most of the time we have been here apart from a few years when Maggie thatcher was throwing money at the building trade when we had quite a lot of work done...

    BCA Auctions

Depends how you drive John. I have two C5 X7 estates and driven by me, who drives like a grandad - rarely over 60 mph or 2000 rpm, I get high '50s in the summer and low to mid 40s in the winter. The second one I bought shows an average consumption of 47 mpg over 6000+ miles and most of that was...

Don’t let your door blow open!

My C5's have got those 'cornering lamps'. At first I thought they were just a gimmick but for driving round the country lanes where I live they are excellent. Peter

Lead acid battery care, how when to charge?

Thanks for all that info, very interesting, smart chargers are probably 'smarter' than I gave them credit for. My opinion was coloured by the fact that most early smart chargers didn't work, or at least not on a very flat battery. Mine are being charged by my 30a radio supply which has a...

Lead acid battery care, how when to charge?

I don't know anything about smart chargers but if you want batteries to last on permanent charge, charge them at 2.2 volts per cell i.e 13.2 volts for a 12 volt battery. It won't fully charge them, or at least not for a long time but it stops them from drying out. I have had a couple o 110 ah...

    Trolley jack bother

I have a Bradbury jack I bought in 1965 and still works perfectly, except for the lowering valve which I have to operate with a screwdriver as the tab on the handle has worn away. Should have lasted mind - cost me nearly a weeks wages! Peter

Don’t let your door blow open!

I don't do petrols. I think the last one I owned had a carburetor and distributor - maybe even a dynamo.;) Peter

I would consider it permanently closed.;)

Don’t let your door blow open!

Jags usually do ride well, one of the few. John The C5 X7 as its called has got hydrophnumatic suspension but it was an option although I think most of the early cars had it - except mine. Looking at the fault reports on the FCF it seems most problems are with the suspension or auto box which...

Can't afford anything that new. Pleased to hear Audi have started fitting springs to there cars though, never used to feel as though had any. Peter

Don’t let your door blow open!

I ran CX's for 10 years John, then XM's for another 10 years, when there were no more decent ones available I went to 406's which were a good compromise between comfort and handling and ran those for about 10 years. I had a couple of the early C5's and wasn't very impressed with them, had never...

I don't like to feel any bumps at all and the C5 comes closest. Skoda Superb good but not as good. Peter

Don’t let your door blow open!

Yes, that's how I would like them, unfortunately the VW's don't ride like the C5 so I will have to put up with it.;) Peter
