    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

Thanks for your replies. I have realised that I will need to be closer than 1m to the boundry so I will need some "fire proofing" I seem to remember that cement board could be used for that. could I use the cement board instead of the osb. In fact on the back ( facing the neighbours) could i...

    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

The building is about 3ft from neighbours fence ( I could make it 1m) its going to be a flat (pent roof) the plan is for it to be one building 15ft x 8ft which is divided (by partition wall) as shed (5ft x 8ft) and summerhouse- if that makes a difference. It could (at a push) be 2 separate...

    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

sorry my brain was in dfa mode (though I could play the dyslexic card....) Thats confused me ( not difficult at the moment) so is it not the top of the highest point of the roof? and I thought it was 1m from the boundry not 2 or is that something else? ( material) Stupid thing is I spoke to...

    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

meanwhile getting back on topic LOL After lots of reading I am starting to worry that if I dont line at least one side with obs the frame will flex too much. But I also read about using metal building straps on the diagonals to cure that. So I am going ( at the moment) of building the walls out...

    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

I was always lead to believe that the gap should be on the outside (on the cold side) of the wall ?

    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

Robin, Thanks for the reply Concrete pad isnt really viable for me. So my plans for the wall are as follows outside to inside T&G cladding Tyvex fixed to frame studs PIR insulation between the studs waterproof membrane ( for draft/noise insulation) T&G cladding

    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

Thanks for all the replies. Maybe I am being a bit thick here but I saw the outer membrane ( tyvek or similar) and a way of waterproofing the frame and the internals. Hence my reason for planning to wrap the outside in tyvek. Clad straight onto the tyvek outside. Put in pir with a 25mm gap...

    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

Woody, In my post I said I would be putting 75mm pir between the joists for insulation. So I dont really need an internal membrane, but as you say for draft protection it is a good idea.

    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

Thanks for the replies. Thanks Motorbike, I am a little confused, as when i was reading up on the base/foundation, I got the impression that it wasnt a good idea for the frame and joists to sit on a concrete pad due to damp and water pooling. As the ground is a bit uneven my plan was to dig...

    Insulating summerhouse (during build)

Hi All I am planning to build a summerhouse/home office so it will need insulating. I wonder if you kind people could offer me your thoughts on what I am thinking of doing? Floor support will be timber frame and joists (47x100) on concrete piles. I was intending to put baton in the joists at...

    Couple of path laying questions

So I have managed to answer a few of my own questions. 1: there does seem to be conflicting advice on this but paving expert suggests that compacted 75mm would be ok- my soil is very much clay based and "muddy" 2: again from paving expert a mix of 10: 1 is fine for patios and paths- there...

    Couple of path laying questions

I am laying a curved path in the back garden using 600 x 300 pavers. Its about 4m long and the gaps between the pavers will 20mm pebbles. The idea is that the path will be 1m wide and the sides filled in with pebbles. It doesnt get that much use. 1st question: Looking on paving expert it says...

    Yet another nail gun question

Hi all I have some garden projects planned. I need to build some picket fences and build a large summer house with T&G cladding. Lat work I did was a log store and I used an electric Tacwise nailer (max 40mm) which worked but I feel the nails arent long enough. I have a fair few Dewalt 18v...

Siting a patio in a garden without a straight edge

I did think of staggering the steps as they are rectangular, but I think that would look a bit silly, not sure how i could put a curve on just one edge?

Siting a patio in a garden without a straight edge

Hi All we have a very long but thin garden( 45m x 7m) that is in the process of being upgraded. the house was built in 1865 and nothing is straight! for a bit of background/ visualisation the area direct from the house is about 4m wide 8m long this is decked, this leads to a kitchen garden 4m x...
