clear sealant for external shiplap cladding.

Hi all we have a summerhouse finished in shiplap cladding, to this we have clad our little shed as an annex butted up to the summerhouse. As the shed is smaller than the summerhouse the (pent) roof angles up to the summerhouse side wall. It is covered in roofing felt so looks a bit ugly. So our...

    Mixing Osmo UV oil

I have used the osmo uv protect tint. I bought the warm oak. It to looks dark, when applied to plywood it looks like horrible orange pine!!! I am thinking of trying to tint it myself ( with dome wood dye?) to try and loose the orangeness

    Shed roof

Thanks for the reply. The roof at the moment is 18mm osb covered in felt. I would either nail it direct to the felt roof or put battens on. Good to know about the lifespan. I wonder if there are clear water protection treatments?

    Shed roof

I have a bit of a situation. I have build a summer house (4.5mw x 2.5md) and its all treated T&G with a rubber membrane sloping ( front to back) roof. We have decided to add on a cooking shed ( 6ft x 4ft) on the side ( so 1.8m front to back 1.2m left to right) We have clad it in the same T&G...

    Ventilation gap under summerhouse

Hi all I have built a summerhouse/off (many posts about it of the course of the build). I built it on 4x2 timbers sitting on paving/concrete "islands" with a membrane on. Fitted PIR insulation between the timbers. The ground isnt level so the gap underneath ranges from 50mm through to 150mm...

15g nail gun Ryobi or Hikoki?

Just realised that the Hikoki may be more difficult to get an adaptor for, but I have just seen a MILWAUKEE M18FN15GA at screwfix. Any thoughts on that? Thanks

15g nail gun Ryobi or Hikoki?

Hi all I have been using a 2nd hand Ryobi RG15gn18 air strike nail gun for a couple of years. I bought it 2nd hand and it was well used. It has now died ( with 2 walls of cladding left to do!!!!) All my other tools are Dewalt ( I have a battery adaptor for the Ryobi) so I was looking at the...

T&G cladding a room what order of install?

sadly not man enough for my requirements. I had the 15g ryobi airstrike which was pretty good. I like the 15g size and I dont think I can justify the price of the new de walt 15g

T&G cladding a room what order of install?

Thanks for the reply. I only have 3 joists to work on, So I did end up going on a set pattern. I did 2 full boards then a middle joist join, 2 full boards then the left, 2 full, then the right. It actually looks pretty good, would have finished it but my nail gun has decided to die!!! Thanks...

T&G cladding a room what order of install?

Thanks I have enough planks that if I use a join, there will only be one join per run ( annoyingly the wall is 2270 and the "whole" planks are 4200, I have 32 planks of 1930 and at least 30 of 1200. So there is no problem with using 2 smaller planks even accounting for stud ( 550 apart from...

T&G cladding a room what order of install?

Sadly That helpful info came too late. After spending another £160 so that there would be no joins at all anywhere I realised I had based my measurements on the finished size not the face size !! DOH Anyway due to budgets and timescale I have accepted I need to have some joins on the side walls...

T&G cladding a room what order of install?

big-all the T&G is 19 x 100mm. it is going to be secret nailed to the vertical wall joists (4x2) which are about 50cm apart. There probably wont be much added to the surface , but if there is I will try yo make it on the joists

T&G cladding a room what order of install?

Hi all I am finally finishing off the summerhouse and the last bit to do is the internal walls. These are being clad with horizontal T&G. The room is 2.8m x 2.5m with the longest walls being the back wall and front (75% windows and doors) I was intending to start with the back wall but wondered...

    finishing Oak planks

I suspect it wont be a perfect match as its slightly lighter when dried. But comparing the filled summerhouse to the shed with gaps I am sure I would prefer the filler. I will do a test and if its lighter I may try putting an extra coat on just the filler. A final question ( I hope) I have read...

    finishing Oak planks

Well the wax was delayed today. So, having time along with the filler gel, I decided to fill the larger gaps. The larger gaps are not fully dried yet but the smaller ones look pretty good.

    Sanding/finishing a narrow wooden floor

I have an edge sander which, as I said in the original post, was a pig to control and didnt seem to give even results.

    Sanding/finishing a narrow wooden floor

A part of my summerhouse is to be used as a shed so is very narrow (1.5m x 2.5m) the floor is oak plank laid across the width ( to match the summerhouse) I have stripped it bare by using the floor sander across the grain and used the floor sander( across the grain) to get to 80grit. I then used...

    finishing Oak planks

On sanding them and checking with the boss, it has been decided to skip the filling of gaps. I am sure the wax will hide/blend most of them.

    finishing Oak planks

Yes I do agree, and now that is (part) sanded down those gaps look ok. but there are a few larger gaps. Luckily the other part of the summerhouse is a shed so I may well use that as a trial!

    finishing Oak planks

The gaps are a bit random as the planks are second hand flooring (its going into a summerhouse so we havent the budget to be too fussy!) so the tongues have been cut off and the wood has been nailed to the subfloor(18mm osb) the largest gap ( should be hidden) is around 5mm but most are around...
