Oh well - can't please everyone. Just seems the wrong way round - although I know some places read right to left but they didn't discover electricity.

Never understood why the main switch is on the right anyway.

A toaster is a possible suspect - full of burnt crumbs. No tests without special electrical equipment and even with it random trips are very difficult to find.

Both sides of the switch are the same - well, mirror image. It won't have 'L' and 'N' markings. Why do the ones that do?

Neither, I am just pointing out the lack of reasoning in your proposals.

There is no reason to do that. A plug is better in one way in that you can completely disconnect (isolate) the heating circuit by pulling out the plug. That doesn't make sense either - fit another socket instead of the FCU.

Put a 3A fuse in the plug, then.
