    TT system and RCBO's

Im trying to get my head around the CU requirements for a TT system. If i was to fit a CU with RCBO's protecting all the circuits, would the main CU switch 100A or 63A need to be a time delayed RCD or could it just be a straight forward isolator switch as the RCD protection is provided by the...

    BS1361 Fuse

FYI, I have just been to a place where a galaxy 1000 was fitted by the builder. Its an 8,5KW. First thing was it had not been put on the RCD side of the board, when i on behalf of the owner questioned this with the builder he claims no mention was made of an RCD. Second thing, to turn the shower...

Who can issue a Periodic Inspection Report

Just read through this and noticed the question about the cost of PI and PL insurance. My PI is £240 per year which gives me 2m cover. This policy is purely for electrical testing and certification. My PL insurance which covers the rest is £130 per year for 1m cover. I only do domestic work...

Washing Machines Failing PAT tests on High leakage

[/url] Grizzly has posted the link and as i said the leakage test is not compulsory. Also i note that in some of the replies the figure of .75ma has been raised. for a washing machine which is classed as a stationary or movable appliance its 3.5ma or less. Dont know if that makes a...

Washing Machines Failing PAT tests on High leakage

From memory the leakage test is not a "compulsory" test. If you carry out a class1 IT test for example it will not perform the leakage test at all.

    Cracks in wall

Thanks all for the responses its settled my mind a bit more. Woody i agree thats what a survey should do but as i have found and others said a "standard" building survey does not seem to give any advice on the potential level of a problem. It really did seem to be a statement of the bl**dy...

    Cracks in wall

Hi, I am looking at a bungalow to buy and went around it the other day. Inside i noticed quite a few cracks in the plaster all small in width (around 1mm)but numerous. They run horizontally vertically and in some cases fan out. They are on the inside of the external walls and on some of the...

Desirability of Solar PV panels installation

I agree partially and thats why i said if you dont need it. But if, and i do say if you get a 1k per year clear return and i think its tax free ? over the 20year period you stll get a slightly better return, if interest rates stay below 3%. I accept that is unlikely. No axe to grind...

    Downlighters with larger(longer) clamp springs

As requested the outcome. I should have taken pictures but anyway, the Aurora lights with the adjustable springs worked, in so far as it could cope withthe double ceiling thickness and lath. However the ceiling had been so badly damaged that the collar didnt really hide the mess. I tried to...

    ROOF BRACES

Not sure what they are for . They basically are a piece of steel/iron? rod which is bolted to two plates of steel/iron which enclose the rafter about a thrid of the way up from the ceiling. The steel then forms the horizontal of the A. Looking at the design you can shorten the rod by tightening...
