    Best decking paint

Any advice on decking paint which lasts and doesn't loosen up/flake off in the rain? Decking was already painted when we bought house, but lifting. Although rubbed down, it doesn't provide such a good key as new decking. Have tried Screwfix No Nonsense decking paint first, then after another...

How on earth do you fit / remove these b*****y things?

Devil's spawn, and often the rad heat makes them brittle. As above, try turning/squeezing them from behind to push them out.

    Cistern continuously filling

Ah, okay. Think it is this valve though, as the water level's increased by 30mm or so.

I don't mind changing it but have I listed the correct replacement?

    Cistern continuously filling

Downstairs loo won't stop filling, although it's slow. Can the valve be cleaned or will it just fall apart? And if the latter, is this what I need to replace, please? https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-bottom-entry-fill-valve/5527f

Drain smell inside house - tracing source

Re rant, sorry to hear that. We've had a property that Jack built too - I think the worse vendor is a DIYer with a little knowledge. Nor do I think a full survey would pick up a lot of the snags you mention. In my experience they're in and out before the tea's cool enough to drink! Chin up. :)

    Kitchen upstand adhesive

What would be a good product to use for mdf kitchen upstands? They'd be going on to a plastered wall and, I guess, would need siliconing at their base where they meet the worktop. But then I'd have to put pressure on them until they set. I wondered if there's a waterproof contact adhesive that...

    LED rope lighting

I wanted to add some undercabinet LED lighting in the kitchen and note some are 240 volt, some 12, some 24 volt, but with the latter I need to hide a transformer. Are there any advantages in using the transformer type? I also need one short length, maybe 58cm, but most of the 'rope' I've seen...

What’s going on with the standard of plumbers?

My two penneth. Using a 'cheap' tradesman doesn't guarantee a lousy job, any more than using an expensive one guarantees a good job. And yes, some customers are just not worth working for. :-)

    Turning off hot water unvented

Ah thank you. Will I get an airlock or anything when turned on again?

    Turning off hot water unvented

How do I turn off the hot water at kitchen sink, as I want to change the isolator on the feed. If I turn off the stopcock, the cold shuts off immediately and the hot slows down, but doesn't appear to stop - unless I'm being impatient. I have a system boiler and Megaflow cylinder. Thank you!

    Ideal HE12 boiler "thumping"

Yay! (Sort of!) I only found mine was there as I'm gutting the kitchen units for a refit. Good luck and let us know the outcome.
