Distance of door gap required from corner (build. Regs)

Hi All What the minimum distance that a door could be placed from a corner? This is for an external door (not an up and over, but a standard door to get into the garage from the house side) on a garage, Single skin DCB 100mm, apex roof aprox. 5m high. I've looked up the building regs...

Sorry, realised I was a bit sparse on some info there! The walls are solid block construction, single skin. Thanks

    DCB Piers - Corners.

Has any one got a link to a picture of some DCB corner piers? I have a mental block on how they should be done and it would be great to see a pic, or if someone could described the layout - not sure if there are 'variations' on style/strength (a picture says a thousand words they say!). The...

    Trench Footings

For trench fill footings, what depth should be left from the top of the footings to the ground level? I understand for strip footings you usually leave enough for 2 or 3 courses of block work and then back fill, but whats the general procedure using trench fill? Thanks.

Thanks for that Static. Yes, planning on 140mm blocks all round but have taken note of your comments re: wall height and roller doors. Cheers.

What type of Lintel for a 3m Garage door gap?

Hi static. Yes, piers at each end for support as per regs. Its a detached, pitched roof garage and above lintel will be blocks to the apex of the roof, 5.5m high. The 'loft' space will be used for storage. Door Size. Well funnily enough we do have a set of gates that are hanging off the...

Garage floor - to screed or not to screed?

Ahh well done toasty, epoxy paint sounds like a reasonable idea (though a rubber floor still appeals to me!) c.

Garage floor - to screed or not to screed?

Hi ya Mike Yep, this a very useful forum and people very helpful on it - welcome! Regarding your garage floor, I was thinking along similar with my garage flooring - I saw once in a horsey magazine that you can by rubber/latex flooring mix that can be poured on. I think they use it for...

What type of Lintel for a 3m Garage door gap?

Hi All Hopefully the subject says it all. Was just wondering what people would suggest using for a lintel to bridge a 3m wide (Building regs. Max recommended I think) garage door? Concrete or other? Also what length will the lintel be required to overhang on the brick work? The garage...

Concrete Footings - complete join or gap OK?

Hi All Just thinking about some footings I am digging out for my garage. The main garage opening is 3m wide and I was wondering if there was actually any need to pour concrete footings underneath this three metre span (apart from enough to cover the piers at each end of the opening). As...

Fit shower tray under tiles or against tiles?

I tiled to below the top of the shower tray and then butted the tray up against tiles before siliconing. Made more sense to me at the time as we were reusing the existing shower tray which was quite deep, thought it best in case we ever needed to renew it with a shallow one. Silcone worked a...

Do foundations require hardcore on base before concrete

Thats great guys, thanks for your input. I suspected it was not totally the done thing. Building Regs not required, so it was worth asking the Q to get it right. C.

Do foundations require hardcore on base before concrete

Hi all looking at doing foundations for a garage and all the diagrams I have looked at seem to place concrete direct on the final dug surface (or at least thats the impression I got). Someone mentioned that it is best to put hardcore down before filling with concrete to prevent stress points...

    removing a concrete path

My girlfriend and I did a similar task last year before re-seeding our lawn. A few whacks with a sledgehammer along the path (well, to be honest, it was an iron pole with a heap of concrete stuck on the end which we had just dug up) and we were able to lift up portions of the crete just...

    Plaster types??

It does sound like a good thread to get going, why not start it off with what you prefer/use? I'm not a plaster - well I did a little on a few places in my house - but would be interested to know too. It would also be great to get a few more 'sticky' threads up to cover some of the...
