    100 mm soil pipe

Thanks I know the soil pipe looks like cement but I am pretty sure it's plastic that's been painted. Feels like plastic when I tap it (and sound like it too). The external soil pipe and bend into the house is also plastic. My friend who sometimes helps me had a concern that if we cut the soil...

    100 mm soil pipe

Hi there I've bought a new toilet. The waste outlet is approximately 2.3 cm lower than soil pipe. I am going to put either 5.5 mm or 9 mm plywood and 3 mm vinyl on the floor which will raise the floor but it's still slightly short. As you can see from the images of the of the old toilet it's a...

Potential trip hazard how would you deal with this

Thanks The company I buy vinyl from recommended plywood around 5-6 mm. The current threshold is actually just an extension of the exsisting bathroom floor so same height. I did think of a transition strip but a bit worried someone would fall. The stairs are in an awkward place

Potential trip hazard how would you deal with this

Hi there I am redoing bathroom at the moment and the phote shows 2 steps leading up to the bathroom. I want to put plywood on bathroom floor before thick vinyl. My wife thinks it would be a potential trip hazard raising the floor and is worried about someone falling down stairs either going out...

Re: Toothbrush or shaver socket what's involved?

Actually it's a switch. It's located in the boiler cupboard.

Re: Toothbrush or shaver socket what's involved?

Yes true. One more question if you don't mind. I removed an old electric shower as we're installing a thermostatic shower instead. There's now an unused socket (possibly 45 amp). Should that be removed or is it safe to leave it in?

Re: Toothbrush or shaver socket what's involved?

We already charge our toothbrushes in the bedroom but thought it could be more convenient to charge them in bathroom hence some kind of socket needed. Didn't know about mirrors with sockets. Sounds like that could be a good option

Re: Toothbrush or shaver socket what's involved?

Great stuff, thanks. Yes the lighting circuit is 30 mA RCD protected. Had the place rewired a few years ago. Should have had the job done then as electrician suggested. You live and learn. I should be able to create access to the loft by removing a few boxes etc. I like to be prepared :D Much...

Re: Toothbrush or shaver socket what's involved?

Hi There I am in the middle of a bathroom renovation and was thinking of getting an electrician in to install either a toothbrush charger or shaver socket. I am trying to figure out beforehand what's the job entails. I assume they'll need to cut a chase in the wall plus a small hole in ceiling...

    Bathroom batten to brick wall

So is it possible to screw battens into brick with ordinary wood screws?

    Bathroom batten to brick wall

Concrete screws into our walls would struggle without plugs. They're old Victorian so need a bit of help. I've seen people using frame fixings for battens but don't know how effective they are when supporting a bath. Perhaps best to stick to some decent concrete screws

    Bathroom batten to brick wall

Hi there I am currently fitting a new bath and want to screw some battens into the walls which are made of lime plaster and then old bricks. Would frame fixings be strong enough for this? Is there a difference between frame fixings and say a concrete screw with a seperate plug? Many thanks

    Hardie backer boards different thickness

Thanks. So you don't think it will be noticable once tile adhesive has been applied etc?

    Hardie backer boards different thickness

Hi there I've bought two 12 mm hardie backer boards for a bathroom wall. I've noticed their thickness is slightly different. The first board is roughly 10 mm while the second one is 11 mm or so. Is that normal and will it be a problem once I start tiling? I don't really fance taking the...
