Woodchip Ceiling: Skim or "smoothing paint"?

Sadly I don't own enough dynamite for that!

Woodchip Ceiling: Skim or "smoothing paint"?

As part of redecorating we want to lose the woodchip ceilings esp in the hallway. What is the most convenient way: to skim on top of it or to use those paints that are meant to cover bog cracks and imperfections etc? :?: Ta :)

Alternatives to a radiator and heat source from central heat

Thanks all. This has been really instructive for me. I think on balance I will get a long low profile rad for the back wall behind the sofa (probably single panel) Not yet decided if I have the front one removed or enclosed in a cabinet ala Stem....

Alternatives to a radiator and heat source from central heat

Done Apologies for my crude non-existent skills! There is a big radiator in the open through dining room which gets toasty wall but this heat does not come through to the living room. Problem with the back wall is there is then no space for sofa etc or else it will be slap bang in front...

Alternatives to a radiator and heat source from central heat

Alternatives to a radiator and heat source from central heat

That is a cunning idea (and I am obliged to state for the record my wife did say "why don't you just put a radiator shelf above the rad  ) I am guessing the shelf above it would have to extend for the length of the TV with holes to allow wires and cables through? Otherwise the rising...

Alternatives to a radiator and heat source from central heat

Apologies. Picture worth a thousand words. The tv is 1.5m long. The wall length is about 1.7m horizontal to the edge of the step (from the angled wall). Putting a conventional panel radiator would then bring the low-profile long AV cabinet (1.5M) that is going to sit in front of the wall...

Sufficient Heat Output from this Radiator?

Oh dear. Yep I accept that most of the heat will go up. It is sod's law. I Know I could just block the chimney but otherwise I put it on to prevent it being a source of draught. Will be compounded when I remove the rad from the front of the room (as per other thread which also include a pic)...

Alternatives to a radiator and heat source from central heat

lol fair point. BUt £500 + vat was getting a little too steep for my blood for the radiator and there is the issue with noise of course  I did initially start my thoughts with skirting radiator and to be honest can't remember why I moved on. Thinking it through again even if the AV...

Alternatives to a radiator and heat source from central heat

I have a dilemma in that I am putting a false wall to mount a TV on the front of the room (as per another thread) and removing the 1200x550 double radiator that is currently on the wall. One option is to put a vertical rad on/in the false wall to the side of the tv. I can't really have a...

    My £180 4CH CCTV Setup - A Review

Hi Tim I figured I might as well go for this anyway. Could you please tell me though is the PVR noisy? I plan to sling it in the loft but it will be located in the loft very near to the ceiling of the bedroom so would prefer not to have a constant noise?

paiting a room all white - what type of finish: wall/ceiling

Job has been deferred for a couple of weeks due to one thing or another. In the meantime I went paint window shopping. A sobering experience! The current plan is: 1) Reception room (currently cream wall/white ceiling): all white 2) Kitchen (currently light green wall/ white ceiling)...

Sufficient Heat Output from this Radiator?

Sadly I have no idea. Been in the house only 2 months and don't have any paperwork about it. I did have my annual British Gas service a couple of weeks ago and paid extra for it to be serviced too and he also said he didn't know such details but that the draw test etc from it was fine. Pity...

Sufficient Heat Output from this Radiator?

Yes - at the front of the room (offset to the side) there is an open coal-effect gas fireplace. Sods law is that we have to light the fire even on a low flame to stop draughts coming in via that. Sealing it (fireplace I mean) not safe as SWMBO enjoys showing off the effect anyway.

Underfloor Heating - not working (noob)

I completely forgot about this thread! Some info. Thanks for that suggestion. friend came over with a voltage meter to check and we found that the front plate works when attached to the unit on the other bathroom and the backplate had current to it, fuse was replaced too but still backplate...
